i don't get why they film the real car on track and then release renders of some wacky artsy render of 'not the car'

Alpine will supply Andretti with F1 engines if win approval

LONDON, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Alpine will supply the engines if Andretti Cadillac win their battle to become Formula One's 11th team, the Renault-owned sportscar maker's chief executive Laurent Rossi said on Thursday.

Andretti Global and General Motors announced in January they planned to compete with a new all-American team using the Cadillac brand and employing at least one U.S. driver.

"We agreed that if they get their licence to run in Formula One, then we will provide them with a powertrain," Rossi told Reuters at the launch in London of Alpine's A523 Formula One car.

"We could use a second team because you accumulate more data across four cars than you do with two. But it's a drag on your team as well, so you need to be completely well structured. We couldn't that two years ago."

The deadline for submission of formal applications to the FIA is the end of April with any decision by June 30.

Do you think Ocon will clean up his famous random Q1 knockouts?

Quick translation
- The car finished +80 seconds behind Verstappen in Spain, despite Russell blocking Verstappen for a few laps
- In Austria the gap fall under +68 seconds
- At Abu Dhabi, despite Ocon losing race time the gap falled to 57 seconds

This is an incredible spin of events (not to be negative....)

Austria is a high altitude circuit where RB struggled. Ocon and Alonso stopped two times. The winning Ferrari stopped 3 times and had mechanical issues the final laps of a race which included a safety car. Alpine would have finished much further behind otherwise.

In Abu Dhabi? Verstappen was cruising and the RB19 had not had a consequential upgrade since Spa.

I'm just trying to say they picture they are trying to paint is deceptive and I would hope this kind of thing was only done as a positive PR piece, and does not reflect the maximum analytical capabilities of the team.... :?

Furthermore, as a whole, different circuits as a while will have different field spread, which of course influences how far behind the slower cars are.

Would they have liked to mention Verstappen's performance in Spa?

Even a comparison to max's spa would not be very reflective. Alonso had damage and ocon had engine penalties. Furthermore Max drove 5 tenths slower per lap than he could've for the second half of the race at request of his engineer.

Taking isolated data points from races is not too useful because of how many factors there are in F1 races. Need to plot graphs to talk about trends imo

I will do a comparison of the gap to the winner pole sitter for Alpine, but for AM also because they made a huge step through the year. Will post it
