McLaren MCL60

Interesting sidepod detail in full light- plenty of Red Bull influence - let’s see if the floor brings any magic to catapult McLaren forward- great to see the car hit the track- roll on testing and race weekend!

That looks like a shadow or video artifact caused by the floor crease.

It is highly unlikely there's an actual hole in the floor, because firstly, the rules are very strict in that area so a loophole in that region seems farfetched.

But also because based on its position, it contradicts the main purpose of these regulations? The whole goal is to push as much clean air through the tunnels as possible while using the edge to seal the underbody.

Putting a hole there ruins both of the aforementioned effects.

I think that's just the shadow of the side pods from the sunlight hitting it at the right angle lol.

Definitely something going on with the floor looks like some sort of exit or tunnel coming out of the floor towards the front, either way that doesn’t look like a reflection from what I can see it’s an exit of some sorts
Hell of a undercut jeez

I'm not 100% if that's a second ridge or just the sunlight reflecting off the lower sidepod radius there. Could be, given how deep the undercut is.
The renders seem to show a very defined ridge:

And from this other angle, it definitely seems to be there:

Smart use of what could have simply been an intrusion on the floor flow if intended
The render does show a fairly sharp ridge-line; however the photo shows some kind of shroud over the whole front of the upper floor (small aluminium tab at the outer rear, fixings along the chassis).
It is either:
a) a shroud for measuring devices
b) a shroud to simply cover up what they are doing!

The shroud makes it look as though they are using the rear edge as a duct; it also seems to cover the outer floor fence.
Perspective - Understanding that sometimes the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

Apologies if this has been posted before.
It's a week-old video but still good to see all the Suttle changes from last year.

Re: McLaren MCL60

It's no surprise MCL suddenly got 1 huge undercut. Their cockpit is very backwards like RB, & the inlet very forward > a lot of space
& now they moved the sidepods inboard systems to the fat bib storage space (blue), like RB & others, & moved the bottom SIS from sidepod to floor.
Last year they stuffed all that electronic stuff in the sidepods in order to have that ultra thin bib etc... and put the cooling system very forward to have small pods...

MCL made some similar baseline choices as RB, but they exploited them differently & less extremely in '22.

But it remains to be seen whether they replaced their twin air-air intercoolers with a smaller engine mounted air-to water one to gain extra sidepod room

What not really anyone has picked up on (Kyle predicted it) is that the front wing is totally different than the renders and show car. Much more free flow under the wing
