2023 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

In this view, RB's straight line speed is impressive. They are running a larger rear wing mainplane and beam wing than Ferrari by some margin.

Its more of the same from last season. The Red Bull is just silly on the straights.

They used two wings in the session, top speed was set with the smaller one you just posted in RB19 car thread :) Smaller wing is still slightly larger than Ferrari wing, but not this much
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Are you sure about that? Maybe I just have bad eyes but I cannot see that the wings are different.

Is there another obvious photo you can share? I'm inclined to believe you, I just don't see it yet.

From my perspective it looks like the Ferrari, not the Merc, has the most radical side pods. Those things are huge, and clearly are not using flow like other teams are using — namely the water slide area. They are radically different. I didn’t realize it this much until this comparison. Thank you Sevach.

The Aston Martin, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull look so very different. I hope no one complains anymore. I do not see any convergence. 4 unique concepts.

One has a flat central section, the one you quoted organic with. That one was used on installation laps and later in the evening (not sure about fastest lap) and the other was used during the day. The other is fully curved on the bottom and has slightly smaller angle, like Ferrari and Alpha Tauri.

From your post in RB19 thread

Re: Mercedes W14

The W14 remains equipped with the large double spoon rear wing to continue the data collection for better correlation, but expected to change for the first race weekend of the season.

Always nice when we get the cars at a very similar angle:

Interesting how much RB has taken off the top of the FW endplates. Not that it would change FW areo at all, but it does change the tip vortex and how it will behave.

So:
- Mercedes is using a RB style wing from 2022
- RB are using a Ferrari style wing from 2022
- Ferrari are using a Merc style wing from 2022
