apparently she just broke down: hydraulics, stuck in 4th gear ??

Great, just when I thought reliability was nailed.
Anyway, better now than during race weekends...

Which means (if Russel can't get back out), Hamilton will have to sacrifice time (that will be given to russell) to compensate (knowing Merc to keep it fair).

How should this be possible? The drivers are completely different in size, they can only change from one driver to the other in the lunch break.

Merc will lose 1,5 hours of testing.
RBR also hit troubles: oil leak.

They've done it in the past with Lewis and Rosberg. I think that one of the two drove a bit longer, boxed and then they swapped towards to other driver to complete the rest of the day.

Hydraulics is not an easy fix apparently, probably done for the day. Let's hope not.

ok thanks, a shame that it's done for the day :(
Hopefully not too difficult to fix.

I'm wondering, last year merc was 0.4 down in qualy (if i'm not mistaken)
(I know we should await quali first but) going by Wolff's comment (talking about 0.6 down), we even lost 2tenths during the winter?

.4 or .6 it just paints a very similar picture to last year. Merc might have a better platform to work from, but RB are no mugs, and will have taken a step themselves.

The only change, is Merc’s new foundation to work from, which should see them easily out develop Ferrari, and eventually leapfrog them this season. That was the general feeling of what would happen this year, with RB depressingly still with a margin out in front

Unfortunately, I don’t see much hope of a championship fight until 24’, when Merc have a real grip on this concept, and RB’s advantage begins to be eroded and they feel the pain of the reduced wind tunnel.

so 22: understanding what went wrong
23: closing the gap
24: back to having a chance at titles again

Not meaning to be doom and gloom here and such a knee jerk reaction. But I can really only see Ferrari or RB being competitive until 2026. Merc may give it a go and the midfield teams in the later years may think to sacrifice 24 or 25 for more development into the new gen
