Ferrari SF23

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I've asked this question once or twice, but how does the back pressure of the rake blockage not influence the measurement?

It does. The results are compared to corrected simulation results. One way is to simulate the car with those rakes, but it might be a wasted simulation with ATR in place...

Apparently PU reliability is good and team will run it at full power.

The article says that Ferrari hadn’t used the engine at 100% on purpose, in order to hide to others teams.
Ferrari’s engine engineers have improved the efficency that should prevent extra heat in pre combustion chamber.

... much luck in the same way that Honda, Mercedes and Alpine probably didn't go 100% on purpose either; Again, this discussion is more about the team itself, rather than the visual aspects of SF23.

Back on topic, please!

..., front wing lacks a bit of downforce..
Ferrari has the smallest planform front wing of all '23 cars

(darn, I cant find that 10 cars viewed form above spic)

Indeed, I missed that

To be honest, that gives a new perspective on a lot of things...

So they used low downforce not only at the rear, but also at the front?

Downforce is a combination of planform area and angle of attack.

I mean, I had always assumed that they had trimmed off the FW to balance with the rear. I suppose though the difference would be in whether it’s just less cranked than it would be if they had a larger rear wing or a front wing designed to carry lower loads (more similar to 2019).

Impossible to say, I was just surprised at the smaller planform that's definitely reducing the downforce. Whether the result is medium or low downforce front wing is hard to say, since the geometry is much more complex than rear wing.

What is clear is they are pushing hard for big outwash generation even if the downforce is not maximised. Big centerline load also means two more things - there will always be notable outwash (predictability for downstream aero regardless of planform) and drag reduction due to speed-flex is maximised.

It is actually an overal positive thing for me, I was convinced they were far more limited with downforce gains available at the front than at the back. As it stands, I'd say they have plenty of room to add downforce if needed. Of course, both wings provide less efficient downforce, so any addition will be minimal and carefully evaluated.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

''FERRARI has increased the power on the straights, they take a lot from us, but we make up for that with our overall package'' Marko told Oe24. This is a 180 degree change of the situation last year. Last year the RB was faster on the straights especially with DRS but slower in the corners, This year FERRARI is faster on the straights but slower in the corners.
