As i expected RB straight line speed is still amazing and thus Ferrari won't have anywhere near the advantage RB had last year.

Long runs comparison is embarrassing, so i really hope isn't a real picture of the actual pace (the gap simply doesn't make any sense unless Ferrari completely --- up this winter).

The body language of Frédéric Vasseur tells me that they're confident and hiding a lot of pace but we shall see tomorrow.

Long run pace being 1s off was a frequent thing early last year. Ferrari runs a different FP2 program, only thing to look at is tire deg and that's really good for both Ferraris, better than everyone but RBR who has equivalent tire deg.

This was Fp2 last year to add some "context".

According to Formu1a.uno Ferrari has found much better balance compared to last week, specifically the oversteer on exit has been reduced.

And SAI was 1s slower than LEC in race per lap or 1s faster than PER? Of course not, they are simulating 2 different stints.

Actually Sainz in Bahrain was close to be 1s off in average race pace compared to Lec last year IIRC. Something like 0.7 / 0.8s slower.

Do enlighten us which exact engine modes every team used in race sims. How much fuel exactly they used? What was the setup split between two cars foe each team?
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I am not worried. Deg looks very good, on the same level as the Red Bulls. I suspect that Aston Martin is in the same position as Ferrari in the second half of the season where they need to push hard early in order to try to compete which causes way more degradation.

No he wasn't man :).

This is lap per lap in the race last year, aside from a slow first stint, he was matching LEC for the rest of the race.

Also let me just point out that the first lap is in the mid 38s and the second stint is in the mid 37s with a lot of tire deg.

This year there's less tire deg than that at the pace they were simming in FP2. AND I'm still betting that Ferrari and AM/RBR simulated 2 different stints.

Hulk’s lap makes me wonder how much Ferrari held back on the PU side today.

HUL v LEC lap:
Image

RPMs of the Haas during acceleration phases climb at a pretty staggering rate, almost all corners HUL is slower than LEC but catches up in speed almost immediately, and he's not upshifting faster than LEC or getting on the throttle earlier.

This I suppose could be 2 things:
* Lighter car accelerates faster
* Higher engine mode accelerates faster

But the 2 cars aren't close in pace, there are lots of areas to improve in HUL's lap.

ALO v LEC

Image

This has to be the more interesting comparison :).

* AM is real fast.
* Ferrari has great exit of the corners as LEC is on the throttle faster, albeit just slightly, in almost all of them.
* Even if Ferrari is faster on the throttle, it doesn't translate to extra acceleration and speed, which IMHO is a lower engine mode.
* Top speed is slight advantage for Ferrari, but only at the end of the straight, suggesting to me a lower engine mode paired with better aero efficiency of the car
* ALO upshifts faster, but they are running Merc's engine which has much shorter ratios, he's upshifting a smidge faster than HAM, but in line with whatever engine mode HAM was running.

I think AM will be behind Ferrari come quali time, but that AM is very close, good job to them.
