I dont think they can do the undercutting siderpod as the design of the mid wing and sidepod intake doesnt leave enough planes left in the Y axis? to allow the pod to have a undercut.
Kyle details this on the W13 analysis here:
People laughed when I suggested they might be falling for the sunk cost fallacy with the zeropod. Apparently the smart people at Brackley are immune to such things. Yet here we are. Even Toto keeps insisting there are no holy cows at Merc, but this concept is starting to reek of pride.Venturiation wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 19:37i just don't understand how can mike elliott get it so wrong while he worked all this time with allison
there has to be a problem somewhere else
how can you get it wrong 2 times in a row and even downgrade your car
Shovlin said that what’s expensive is to commission new parts, not testing in wind tunnel or CFD.
Leaving the sport? That escalated quickly.harty71 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 21:25Just as I thought, this is the beginning of the end for Mercedes. Losing Allison and other key members to RB has started the rot. Team members are leaving the sinking ship, last year was the beginning of the end for Mercedes. I wouldn't be surprised to see them out of the sport sooner rather than later.
I don't think it's quite that extreme. We didn't see Newey and Red Bull pack up after 2015 two years after dominating did we?harty71 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 21:25Just as I thought, this is the beginning of the end for Mercedes. Post-fp2 interview with Hamilton, if you can tolerate Buxton
looks so dejected, does he even sign a new deal?
When speaking to media including PlanetF1.com in Bahrain, Hamilton was asked if the thoughts of Hill and Button held any truth, and he was quick to bat that prospect away.
“Not at all,” he said. “I mean, it’s ultimately people creating rumours without facts. It’s never helpful – you would have thought that they would both know me by now.
“I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13. Having a difficult year, we had last year, I’m still here. Whether or not we have a difficult year this year, I’ll still be here.
“I’m a fighter, and we fight as a team. I love the challenge of finding solutions, and in trying to still believe I’m able to put the car in places that perhaps others are not able to – and I love that challenge.
“Of course, I wish that we start the season with a great car, but it’s the journey I think that really counts.
Looking at telemetry seems you might be right. But maybe they suffer in high speed at Bahrain so much due to having to compromise it for traction, slow speed rotation etc. It's hard to say.
