McLaren MCL60

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

According to scarbs on tech talk McLaren use vinyl wrap rather than paint for weight saving
This has been common in most top level racing series, including F1, for years.

It’s all cheaper through the season to repair / replace, instead of repainting the car

Exactly, it also makes rotating sponsors between events much easier. This is very handy for series like SuperCars who vary their sponsors across the season.

Key seems to indicate they were hit the most by the 15mm rise because of their floor edge geometry and talks about "2 camps" last year :

"If you look at last year, there were two camps beginning to develop. One which we were in, and one which probably the majority of teams were in. And when we took that [15mm] step, it was a really big knock for us."

Anyone have an idea what that 2 camps might be ?

Any early rumours on what sort of parts the late development focuses on (which is anticipated in Baku)?

On a side note I’d imagine not the easiest of circuits by which to judge new parts?

I think new floor, front angle, maybe nose and front suspension.

Most likely floor, based on everything that's come out of the McLaren camp

A front wing is also likely to come by Baku but could be at any point in next few races

Mild, funny trolling has been removed. It was mildy funny, but car threads are already long enough without pages of cheeky banter.
The Wind tunnel stuff had been moved to the team thread, because, well, the wind tunnel would break just so many legality boxes if we were to consider it the car, not to mention the movable aero...
A reminder to everyone but specially to the new people (welcome!).
We know the season has just started and the passions are high, but...

The car threads are specially strictly moderated in this forum. Stick to this car and to hardware in the car threads.
Team politics and other team things, please in the team threads.
Lap times, happy faces, sensations and will they be faster/slower than XYZ, either in the team threads or in the race threads.

If your post is in this thread and is not centering on this car, the physical car, it might have been or might be deleted or moved.
Let's keep the awesome car threads on this forum
a) focused on the hardware and
b) awesome.

Anyone counting how many posts land, daily, on the car threads, should see why this needed.

Thanks.

Good spot, I think Lando's car had the higher df bahrain spec, so probably going to evaluate both in fp session
