I have a feeling it was a silly issue with a secondary PU system, like RB had fuel pump issues early last year. It will be a few days before we learn for sure.

In Leclerc's hands the car was better than I expected in the race, it was very usable on hard tyres unlike last year. The aero setup compromise hurt badly in the race, as expected, but again not as bad as I thought it would be. Hopefully it will be solved for Australia, shouldn't hurt as much in Jeddah. From Baku on, the team will have learned how to setup the car as good as it can be, so things should improve. Remains to be seen how much other teams can improve.

Sainz is seriously subpar, both on pace and tyre management. Wonder how bad it would've been if the car wasn't to his liking... :(
Starting to feel Leclerc makes that car look too good.

It's a car which has major flaw regarding tyre management. only good for initial 3-5 laps , overheats the tyres, degradation sets in and bang it's a midfield car.
It's only because Mercs themselves are nowhere near that it holds that 2nd best car spot by default.

Hoping that it's just a simple electric problem, but yeah race was going alright for Charles, it's clear the understeer was hurting them a lot, he was losing 0.2 just in T1 from VER. Car in his hands is better than the other non RBR teams for sure.

Already 26 points down and a car that was almost a second down in race pace on the soft tyres today. Yet Max never on the limit. In some corners the speed of the SF23 is pathetic, Alonso collided into Sainz because he carried way more speed than he expected against the Ferrari.
On top of that, reliability still seems poor and already the first parts will have to be changed in Charles car.
Let’s hope Jeddah brings the performance a lot closer and reliability fixed…

What kind of f****g testing they do in winter testing where they pile on laps after laps and then they come to a race, within 30 laps the engine breaks down. Why do they even need testing?

Fighting Red Bull looks like a distant dream, that car could've gone soft, soft, soft if it wasn't for the rules, it's that good.
Charles was keeping it respectable until the failure.
Carlos was subpar allrrace and seemed to get worst in the final stint.

Upgrades will need to be magical if Ferrari is to legitmately challenge for wins.

AM poached all the best RB/Merc team they could get and build a better car than Ferrari in like a couple of years.
Meanwhile Ferrari can barely poach any big names because nobody wants to move to Italy 🤷
At the same time, I feel for some engineers it's an argument : living in Italy.
Not for the cream of the crop it seems.

Needs to be a marked comment on Sainz performance today. It was no where against Leclerc. Needs to be noted for the obvious Sainz vs Leclerc arguments that will happen this year.
Sainz is not the problem , he is doing the best he can .. it's the team. If they can provide a reliable car & good strategy the deserving driver will always come on top Irrespective of who it is.
What exactly was wrong with Sainz car? Didn’t see any car issues?

Strategy?? What the hell was now wrong?

It is the driver. Sainz cannot adapt as easy as Leclerc. He is exposed AF after pairing with Leclerc because latter learns, adapts and overcomes while former waits to have car adapted to his liking..
You misunderstood my comment.

What I meant was, if team won't have these reliability issues and strategic blunders Leclerc will most probably always finish ahead. Imo Sainz is giving his best but we can clearly see the difference in performance.

Due to these issues and inconsistency they end up much closer on the points table then they actually should and hence the debate starts.

Unfortunately, RBR have a beast of a car, it’s so much kinder on the tyres than every other team, and Ferrari really haven’t got the tyre deg under control. I’ll take the positives, Leclerc was lapping well until his PU failed, and I suspect would have been far more competitive with a bit more DF. Not sure Sainz has the speed or tyre management to be an able deputy, however thankfully held of the Merc

Absolutely no chance in hell a race pace deficit that big is recoverable. The FIA have to do something to the Red Bull unless they want Verstappen to clean sweep the entire season. Ferrari's race this year is to avoid coming 4th in the championship. RB are in their own league.

Meh. Kinda disappointing from Ferrari, they need to work on that race pace a lot.

So i compared Leclerc first stint this year to his first stint last year (both in free air and with soft tyres).

On average, if my math is correct, he has been 0.142s slower per lap in 2023 compared to 2022.

My point exactly, sf-23 is far worse car then sf22. Beeing 0,160 s slower compared with last year explains it all, thats why RB is one sek per lap faster. That is disaster from Ferrari to bild a car that is slower then 2022.
Sorry but seasong is over, game over.

Unfair comparison. Last year Leclerc was leading, being chased by Max.

This year he probably was just trying to keep the tires given they said before the race that they have to manage it in order to stay ahead of AM.

Ferrari was undone by the rear wing first and foremost. Whatever PU issue Leclerc had, I hope does not recur.

They’re saying that the control unit went haywire and so not an issue with the engine itself which is something:

https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-fe ... /10440245/

Hopefully they can salvage the first one or it’s penalties in race two. Still, with any luck there’s nothing wrong with the engine and the next circuit will at least suit their wing levels more.
