This could go a long way towards opening up F1 to new teams. FOM has a vested interest to lock teams into multi year contracts, which isn't relevant to the FIA. The FIA have allways run the championship on a yearly basis and have been outspoken about the wish to make it open and affordable to new entrants."Accordingly, we have requested that the FIA join with FOM and the teams to sign a binding agreement that will bring stability at the very earliest opportunity, or alternatively, enter into a separate bi-lateral governance agreement between the teams and the FIA."
I hope that this opportunity to cut the ties between FIA and FOM is utilised. The two organisations have different objectives and bi-lateral contracts could make it easier to come to an agreement.
