Driveshaft failure according to RB twitter.

Is driveshaft considered a part of the gearbox? Or is it a free component?

Pretty sure it's a free component ?

Not the end of the world. It's race 2. Max is starting 15th which is far down but the top speed is good so he will fight back through

If it is only that it will be “free”, but what about the gearbox?

The gearbox really should not be a problem if the break was in the drive shaft.

Might be important to consider the effects a driveshaft failure has when one side of the diff can suddenly spin freely, it’s really easy to overspend the components

Are they certain types of diffs in these cars?
I know a lot of race cars (not F1) run a plate diff which means that both wheels will turn at the same time rather than independently. I can’t see a F1 car being too dissimilar to how it puts power from the diff to the rear wheels. Anyone any insights on that?

Even if we don’t have the nice reliability, there’s nothing stopping us doing throw away components like Mercedes did with Lewis 2 years ago. The car is more than fast enough to do it. Granted it’s not the best by any means and it’s a total abuse of the penalty (which should get worse in my honest opinion)

Supposedly they'll be running a car on the Nordschleife in a couple months.

Expecting max to win from p15 tomorrow. Crashes/retirements are frequent here and if he stays out of trouble the fight will be between him and checo.

Got good odds on betting pages if you fancy a gamble. 11/8 for the win. I’m very tempted

To be fair I don't think that is a good odd for someone starting in P15 at Jeddah no matter the car's pace :D
Definitely going to be harder than Spa to pass people, a good timed safety car will help him a lot. Perez is more logical for a win in my opinion. Obviously he doesn't have the same pace as Max but he'll have a clean air most time. Depends a lot on a Safety Car :D

Depends also on his start which doesn't tend to be amazing.. and he's starting alongside the one and only king of starts

Agreed. Specifically Magnussen is scary to race with in the first laps. (Whoops, I thought you meant Max :D )

League of it’s own at the minute then the Red Bull?

Doesn’t look like anyone will fight it at this stage at least?
