Have to give that to Merc, I thought it was strategic as well.

Although AM should have kept an eye and know about it, IMO it is a complete travesty that a lap 18/50 violation was investigated post-race.

I swear to God the FIA are utterly useless. They have most the race to figure this stuff out, yet they can't issue a penalty until after the podium ceremony. What an absolute yoke of an organisation. And this is supposed to be the premier class of racing...

I agree, it takes literally a few seconds of watching the pitstop to see that and then give the penalty immediately, and let Alonso at least have a chance of trying to make up the 10 second penalty
