Did McLaren not have the chance to make an offer to retain the highly rated Pat Fry?

Did Fry already have a Renault pre-contract when working at McLaren?
Is Pat Fry setting the world on fire at Alpine?
Certainly. The Alpine was hanging on to the Ferraris in Melbourne. It was a fast car!
Lando was matching front running times too. In a "brick" of a car. His poor qualifying cost him track position but the race pace was good

Alpine have to be performing well below expectations for a works outfit no? McLaren being so bad to start the year has let Alpine off the hook.

Was it a mistake? We do not know who else was available at the time, it may have been Hobsons Choice.

Phew, that's a relief! =D>

I read somewhere that Fry wanted the TD job and nothing else & Mclaren didn't want to give it to him...

TP or TD?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Doesn’t really matter tho, Pat Fry really half got much to show for his last decade in the sport.

And who in your *(Mod edit: unnecessary personal jibe removed)* opinion in McLaren has got much to show for the last decade in F1. Very strange to stop at exactly a decade. I'll go ahead and assume you mean exactly a decade so that rules out Podromu and Stella. I would like to say that Brown has something to show but the proof is in the pudding and McLaren are still nowhere. The only thing McLaren has done that we could call anything close to half decent in the last decade can be traced to Pat Fry.

Here's what you need to do in F1 if you didn't know... Design and build a fast car.

What's James Allison doing these days?
I thought Wolfe called him for Merc.

Hopefully the new structure can see the merit of a works deal and it can come to fruition…..

Albeit not sure I can see it happening given the politics of it all after 2015-18

If only Honda had committed to staying with F1 earlier. They're on the backfoot for 2026, that's for sure.

Name a more iconic duo...

But in all seriousness, if Honda were to actually long term commit for once in their existance, having McLaren be their works team would be pretty nifty. As long as they don't revert to making hand grenades instead of engines again, that is.

The problem is given the choice, AMR looks much more promising as a chassis builder. Honda don't want to put a great engine in a poor chassis.

Sadly they've not been making decent chassis and overall design for some time.

By that, I mean one that the drivers really say, this is absolutely right on the money to drive.

Notice that the field split in Aus was 102.08% (think that's correct) on fastest pace. That's really tight and punishing for any drop back in terms of finishing positions.
