With the annoucement of a breakaway series, I am just wondering which are the tracks that are most likely to be included in their calender?

Re: Where will FOTA be racing?

I heard somewhere (great way to start a post!!) that the prince of Monaco would go with whatever series Ferrari was in. Both series will now desperately want Monaco, it could end up being the lynchpin of the whole situation.

I love the way this forum jumps into the new reality, some people in the sport will literally take years to accept the new reality, but F1 Technical types take literally minutes.

Likely venues for the "Grand Prix World Championship" or whatever they will call it:

Monaco
Silverstone (obvious)
Fuji or Sazuka in Japan (whichever one is not currently under contract to Bernie).
Indy in the US (Yea!!! I'm in the US)
Canada if Canada loses interest in Bernie)
Other classic European tracks that can't afford Bernie's ridiculous prices.

Who has other specific track ideas?

Love this F1 Technical community and I hope we continue to love the racing in whatever series may have it.

Hm... I remember Mark Webber saying something like "we'll be back to Silverstone for sure" a few days ago :)

So I'll have a go at it:
Silverstone
Magny-Cours
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
Road Atlanta
Zandvoort
Zolder
Suzuka (F1 GP every other year)
Imola
Hockenheim
Potrero de los Funes (San Luis, Argentina)
Phillip Island
Brno
+ a few new tracks. McLaren's visiting Moscow with Heiki and MP4-23 in July, btw.

I posted this in the other thread but here is my ideas

You would have to count on

Silverstone
Portugal
Canada
Spain
Italy
Germany

These are the no brainer circuits or countries

On top of that we would probably see

Japan (Fuji)
Aust ???
Somewhere in USA
Holland ??
Austria

Any other guesses?

Yes I forgot about France, but you would expect that too. Also if the cost of hosting a race was low, you could see a number of street races spring up quite quickly. I doubt that we would see to many of the current tracks as Bernie would bankrupt them.

I'd like a race in Portimao (Portugal) too. It's like a mix of A1 ring and Turkey.

Seen the state of the A1 ring lately? Don't think anyone or anything would be racing there for a while.

I definately think that the US could support two full blown events, most likely at indy and somewhere else... Possibly a return to Long beach? It would be pretty neat to see them back to back one week after the other. I also think that you could see a date in Mexico and it would be a shame not to see montreal back on the calendar for sure.

My guess is car manufacturers will defintely want to go to places where they can sell more cars hence for Ferrari, it has got to be USA and China.

I would say FOTA will adhere to current circuit safety standards and regulations. This is the list of Class 1 Formula One circuits, that is, tracks able to run F1 races, as of 2006 (sorry, this list has no newly certified tracks, like Valencia), :
  • Albert Park
    Bahrain
    Bahrain-Paddock Circuit
    Catalunya
    Dubai Full Circuit
    Fuji Speedway
    Fuji Speedway - Short Layout
    Hockenheim Grand Prix
    Hungaroring
    Imola
    Indianapolis Grand Prix
    Interlagos
    Istanbul
    Jerez
    Magny-Cours
    Monaco
    Montreal Gilles Villeneuve
    Monza
    Mugello
    Nürburgring Grand Prix
    Sepang
    Shanghai International
    Silverstone Grand Prix
    Spa-Francorchamps
    Suzuka

As explained, A1 ring "recovery" was stopped by environmental reasons.

Just in case, the list of Class 2 circuits is the following one. They could be updated or recertified in some cases, but I'd say they have to hurry up: the circuit built in the shortest time in history (if I'm not mistaken) was Hungaroring, and it took 8 months to build it. Of course, this tracks don't have to be built from the ground, but...
