Nope, engine will be turned way down in FP. Now if they think because of the rule change to permit 4 engines they can turn it up a little, maybe they will. Though I haven’t read anything about they improvising reliability of the engine from season start.

Hmm, that could mean they will remove it for FP2.

The new floor? That's what they did last year. Tried a new floor in free practice with 1 driver only, then removed it for the rest of the weekend. Then they used it with both drivers the next weekend.

I would have a friendly wager that this time it will stay on LEC's car if it's good.

No disagreement here. I was having a cheeky go at a former Ferrari employee

Seems like Ferrari is still running the engine turned down, more than 0.5s lost on the back straight alone.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Ferrari is hiding a lot of pace. They will probably win the qualy again, although the race is a different thing.

So my brief analysis:
* Ferrari has got to have too much wing, past 260kph you see the aero efficiency causes a dip in acceleration that RBR doesn't have, it's still almost there with the Mercs though.
* Into T4 (1000m) LEC is lifting, you can actually see the throttle line for Ferrari takes a little dip, on the onboard the engine stops revving up towards T4 as well.
* Ferrari has 8 laps old tires, vs new tires for Russell and slightly younger (5 laps) for VER, so naturally fast corners take a bit of a dip.
* Thanks to the barn door that Ferrari put on the car the cornering performance looks insane, T11-16 Ferrari gains 0.5s on VER and 0.25s on RUS.
* Ferrari is definitely porpoising out there, that suspension must be soft as hell because slow corner performance isn't bad at all.

I also think the engine is a bit turned down because the RPMs in baku were the same as RBR, but here Ferrari RPMs are a bit lower than RBR and a lot lower than Mercs. So while I think there's too much wing, the downside in the straight is a bit magnified due to the engine being turned down.

Overall this was a good practice session IMHO.

no idea what's the engine situation exactly so far (in terms of different run times and so on), but at the beginning of the session, the team told Sainz Leclerc' lap time on the radio and added "engine one as well". So I guess they'll swap to the newer one tomorrow.

Maybe running too much wing to protect tires in race pace ?

Ferrari always runs "mode race" for FP1 which is neutral ERS deployment. Only moves to "mode push" for FP2 (and sometimes the first lap on soft in FP1, not the best today).
