Max was complaining about bad upshifts in the race. It never really subsided. Between lap 50 and 57, GP asked Max if he wanted to "test" another setting, but wise Max was having none of it, afraid to make it worse

Anyway, persistent gearbox issues this year. They are on Max's 3rd box if I'm not mistaken. This box probably took a beating today.
Sure there will be no problems.

Either way, a 5 place penalty is nothing for this car. Same as what merc done with the spicy engines in 2021. Except you can’t tune your gearbox to go faster like you can with a engine

I think I am probably only one who thinks this way. Max should more often fluff his qualifying to start somewhere in deep mid field to keep his racing skills intact. Starting from pole and cruising would do more harm for his racing reflexes as he ages. He is still at an age where the skills grow for another few years, but that can't happen if he disappears from pole.

A decent slow-motion video of RB19 in action at turn 15 shows us the ride quality of the car, the ride height and a little bit of the floor and edge "furniture" ...

The car is good like what Mercedes had past 8 years. So, even he or Pereze start down the order they can come to P1 or P2 depending on circuit. As per my guess, they are least 0.6th faster in race sim. Very difficult to catch them up till 2026 next rule change. So RB dominant again after 2013.

Does anyone know what the problem(s) is with the gearbox?

Not sure if it is a gearbox problem or control / hybrid mapping issue. There has been a lot of complaining also about the behavior of the rear under braking. Since their hybrid energy recovery and deployment is very good, it could also be that they are simply very aggressive and that it affects drivability.

That's been my guess. Very aggressive when braking.

I know they've talked about downshifts previously, but it was upshifts that were the problem in Miami.

He said "upshifts are not smooth". Smoothness is one of the best two feature of seamless gearbox. I think it was same synchronization issue which we heard so many times at earlier races about redbull's gearbox.

Max complains about the car more than every driver I know, every race there's an issue.

Maybe the car should just work the way he was promised it would...

Yes. The stopping of the car was crazy in comparison when overtaking others. That is not just a bit more downforce, they use the rear a lot for braking. That is much more difficult than having the brake balance a bit more on the front.

Well, his complaints make it just more to the world feed, which is not uncommon as the leading driver. It is not even 1% of the radio that we hear during the race.

Providing feedback, pointing out issues with specific feedback is not complaining. Thats raising the bar and the reason he is where he is.

It's not a slight at Max, maybe he is really sensitive to what it's doing, it's no worse than hearing Hamilton complaining that the tyres will never last.
