On another note. Here's a reminder of what is to come.AR3-GP wrote: β15 Mar 2023, 16:14Make of this what you will, from Wouterf1 @AS Forum. An hour ago, an RBR insider wrote the following:
There is not that much to report. Those gearbox problems in the last race were bigger than people want to let on. Power had to be cut back considerably.
There is now a solution to that. Let's see if that is indeed THE solution under race conditions.
One update in the pipeline is worth 2.5 tenths in the simulator and another even 3 tenths ( and a bit).
Together with the over 4 tenths of reduced power, that does indicate the huge task the competitors have.
What fight did Lewis have in his winning years, with those dominant cars? I am really curious.PlatinumZealot wrote: β10 May 2023, 01:33Problem with Max is that he's just like Vettel in 2013 at this point. I think thats premature, but he shows to be among the greatest, no doubt.
You are right, sorry to get offtopic. To be honest, its easy to do so because areas of knowledge are not isolated.
Agree. Needs a direct teammate battle. Hamilton matched Alonso in his debut season, Hamilton v Rosberg twice went to AD. He had the battle with Vettel throughout the 2017 season. Three world champions.mendis wrote: β10 May 2023, 05:49What fight did Lewis have in his winning years, with those dominant cars? Premature to put him amongst the greatest, as Max lucked out in, 21β, when he looked beaten by Hamilton, and then heβs beaten a pretty poor Perez. Not even comparable.
But everyone knows how much faster the W12 was. It was a mighty drive by the current champion Max Verstappen.PlatinumZealot wrote: β10 May 2023, 03:23No one knows how much faster the RB16B was more than the Mercedes. The same way we had no clue that the F2008 was crazy fast agains the Mclaren when Lewis and Alonso was driving it. It's only by revision when we see Alonso Vs Kimi that we know that Ferrari was much faster.
"I've been in the simulator, but I will drive the RB19 in July after the Silverstone race β I'm getting a Pirelli test," said Ricciardo.
"Then maybe I'll get another one after Monza as well in September. A couple of months away [and] I'll get to feel what it's like."
"But I'm just excited to drive again and to just try to remind a team obviously I once had a lot of success with that I can still turn a fast lap."
He will be on experimental tires so laptimes would be meaningless.Farnborough wrote: β11 May 2023, 09:10I doubt there'll be much public information available to see where he stands pace wise, but would be interesting to see for us the observers out here.
Must be a consideration for AT next year, surely
The attempts to sign Newey by Mercedes definitely points to desperation in Mercedes. It's not a good sign for them and on the other hand, securing Newey's services at Red Bull points to continued domination. That is what Helmut Marko claimed, speaking to F1-Insider, he said: βIt seems [Toto] Wolff has no confidence that his own people can solve the problems with the Mercedes.β
