I feel that if we were to go back to America, we should race arround a track that has all left handers. Yes i said it, we should go to an oval, our drivers should be more than able to compete on an oval. And i feel it would be something that the guys on the other side of the pond would appreciate is to see "our" guys on "theri" style of racing cuircit.

Also make a more complete form of world champoinship i feel.

I would have no problem racing on an oval once a year, but I'd still find it boring as hell. Honestly, I don't think I'd watch that race.

Personally, I don't hate NASCAR, I hate oval racing, in any category. When NASCAR races on road courses, I watch.

Thank you Ciro for posting lists of class 1 and 2 tracks, it gives a better picture of what is possible. I would like to discuss options for North America. Currently, there are no FIA sanctioned Formula One events in North America. Now imagine that this new FOCA series stages at least three, hopefully four events in North America. Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Indianapolis, Laguna Seca, and Mexico City.
I can imagine how wonderful it would be for fans. But just as important, is the fact that this series would establish a firm foothold on North America, while FIA has zero. For the big teams affiliated with manufacturers, it would be manna from Heaven. From a business and advertising perspective, jackpot.

I wonder what Peter Windsor, Ken Anderson, and their buddies at USF1, oops, USGPE are thinking now? They just commited to a series where they proclaim they are a proud US company, yet... no races in the USA, and worse yet, their direct competitors enjoying racing in the USA. How on earth can they capture any US based sponsors? And if FOTA can lock up Indy and Montreal (which I believe will be easy since both tracks are disgusted at how Bernie conducts his business) then it will be near impossible for FIA/Formula One to regain a foothold on North America. Watch for USGPE to bail out, or sadly, fold.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

I dont think that current spec F1 equipment could handle running flat out like that for hours on end. You'd probably most importantly need a whole different type of tire, different wings and suspension. Building all this stuff for a one-off race probably doesn't jive well with the current economic conditions. Plus all the testing involved... sounds like a nightmare.

That said... I'd love to see it happen. Imagine the sound!

F1 on a short track would be hilariously amazing.

F1: Martinsville GP.

On the surface, it would be cool to see them racing at Daytona or Talladega. But I fear there's a huge obstacle, named Tony George. Right now, it would be a very good thing if the breakaway series gains the blessing of Tony George and get to race again at the Indy road course. It would be a huge accomplishment, and a blow to Formula One. But to be allowed to race at Indy, it would be foolish to attempt to race anything resembling Indy Racing league because that would make Tony George very unhappy. He would see it as an attempt at direct competition with his beloved IRL, and would not tolerate it. First thing that would happen is that Indy would stop doing business with FOTA.

I have to repectfully disagree. Honestly, I think that NASCAR has been eating Tony George's lunch since the Brickyard 400 was devised. I dont think the IRL is in any type of competition with an F1 series, I think the IRL is in direct competition with NASCAR for strictly american oval racing dollars. They both race on almost all the same tracks, and as far as I'm concerned, NASCAR popularity explosion took off when the CART/IRL split happened.

I'm sure Tony George would just be happy to have asses in the seats for three more days a year regardless of whether an F1 style race was held on the F1 track or the oval.

No problem panchito401, your argument makes sense. But both of us are speculating how Tony George would handle such a scenario. We just have to wait and see.

I wish to thank you for your polite manner. I respect that. It just proves that two people can disagree without being nasty or name-calling.

I think FOTA will race on the same tracks as F1 because FOTA will be F1 (or F1 will be FOTA) next year... so I am sorry for Silverstone.

I wonder how long FOTA can delay publishing a calendar. The longer they put that back the higher is the probability that they can sort it all out and take over F1. If they do not manage that they will probably stick to class 1 circuits. Just try to imagine what would happen if they have an accident with driver or multiple spectator fatalities on a class 2 circuit. Whoever was responsible for the deals (presumably Briatore) would be slaugtered by the press in Europe.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

honestly, i think that if the FOTA championships takes off, there will be NO F1-FIA championship.
without the big teams, a lot of the tv contracts will be void, same for at least some of the circuits, and i don't think that for the "new teams" it would be worth the investment (40 mil is still 40mil) to get involved in a highly devalued series that has likely no future. the old series will fold very quickly, and all the teams will be free to go wherever they want.

Reading this one can imagine that class 2 circuits are some deserted junkyards

Can Monaco Grand Prix course be classified at least as class 3?
