Reading this one can imagine that class 2 circuits are some deserted junkyards

Can Monaco Grand Prix course be classified at least as class 3?

I was thinking of Laguna Seca for instance. A wonderfull track with the fantastic cork screw but undeniably unsafe compared with F1 standards. Road America would also come to mind but we have seen several nasty accidents there in recent times.

F1: Martinsville GP.
Now that would be a truly spectacular race!

Btw, add in Bristol too!

Hey i'd fly over for that!

I still think for street circuits you really cant go past Adelaide! We have the infrastructure, a motorsports friendly population and Government (250,000 attend every year over 4 days to the Clipsal 500 and we had aproximately 130,000 to the ALMS Race of a thousand years on New-Years 2000) who understand the benefits such large events bring to the state economy.

Just trying to think what is so bad there they have pretty good runoffs almost every where dont they?

Isle of Man Snaefell Mountain Course, the runoffs aren't much worse than Monaco, but the curbs are a bit more square.

Unless they get Bernie on board, in which case he'd charge a billion and the benefit would come nowhere near the cost. I'm from Melbourne and have yet to go to a race in over 10 years because of the price of tickets...

back on topic, I was wondering what kind of clause would prevent an alternate series hosting a race at the F1 tracks? Surely those track owners (particularly for dedicated tracks) would want to host every race they can. I know some in this forum don't like the idea of too many flyaway races and the push in the middle east, but the CE of Abu Dhabi has no problem hosting both an F1 and FOTA race (http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/n ... 4654.shtml)

Almost is the crucial word, I guess. There have been deadly and almost fatal accidents in both places since 1994 (which is a kind of watershed in terms of safety for F1).

Ultimately Ciro is the right person to give you the low down for criteria between first and second class circuits. I do not know enough to point to the specifics. One thing I would be pretty sure is the lack of any sophisticated FIA style crash barriers where run offs cannot be facilitated. I have never seen these TecPro high tech barrier systems in the US.

I think one can argue back and forth for a lifetime on how safe is safe?

I for one is certain that most of the drivers would relish the challenge of Elkhart lake or Laguna seca.

Just like I wouldn't be surprised if Alonso's wet dream would be to take his Renault to the Nordschleife.

Mock NASCAR all you want but they do fill the seats unlike F1. F1 needs to be more fan friendly and the teams have mentioned cheaper ticket prices.
