Mercedes W14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Its a different design than any other indeed, but clearly inspired by existing solutions
So more in route of Alpine treatment.

That is seriously more than I expected, look at that big fat turning vane on the top of the floor entrance

According to Giorgio Piola, there is a metal structure which resembles what RB19 has to reinforce the floor in front of the rear tyres and only left 10-15cm free of the floor edge (for possible flexing and vortex generating?).
Could this rear floor reinforcement work in conjunction with the anti-dive front suspension that leads to a more stable aero platform?

Talking about the rear suspension has anyone some info regarding what damping solution are they using? Ferrari just swap to a DSSV (dynamics suspensions spool valves) dampers system from Ohlins, which RB19 is also using ...

Quite a steep slope by the looks of it.

Looks like it goes right to the floor?

Undercut doesn't look like the most powerful thing and quite far forward compared to every other team who've been trying their best to mimic RBs undercut much further back.
Slope was quite steep indeed and does seem to go right down to the floor.

Looking at how brough it looks I can see them slowly moving that undercut backwards as time goes on. Does look much more powerful fully assembled.

The scale of changes and the fact they were attempting to resolve fundamental flaws does give some hope of getting closer to the front.

Fixing a flaw has much more potential for releasing performance than just a progressive/evolutionary upgrade.

The car has looked like a dog. But for all we know parts of it could have been pure magic and were previously held back.

If you're talking about why it isn't flatter below the sidepod entrance area, maybe the throat is taller.

Very interesting shaping of the undercut and floor junction, a double outwash kick. Well, the second one is hardly a kick, but it does push outwards. Could even extend fully to diffuser width, thus feeding the mouse hole with undercut air. This confirms it's a step where they completely turn away from zeropod/slimpod philosophy.

Nice Rhetoric. :D
I am being patient. This one is too suspiciously vanilla!! Probably was in the tunnel in Bahrain.
Don't worry PZ. We'll have several pages to discuss the intricacies of the new philosophy.

What is this vertical slit in the middle of the sidepod?

My guess feeds ducts that exit over the top of the sidepods for more energetic flow and to avoid boundary layer attachment issues (much like Ferrari) but who knows - it's just a guess
