It's possible simulator is using last year's tarmac which was freshly paved, provided a lot of grip and was probably smoother. In 2023 that setup is no longer feasible due to various bumps emerging. Lap times are also not that fast for the entire grid. I don't think we're beating 2022 pole, maybe just. However leclerc had another 0.5s in pocket in Q3 last year before aborting for red flags, and we're 100% not getting close to that.

Whoever is doing simulator job isn't doing well or the team working on preparing setup based on that simulator work is becoming inefficient. Since last year, these things are apparent.

And imho they always planned this. Not this much risk ofc. They said Max would not go out last in Q3 again, but when they started as very first and did 2 banker laps it (for which they took fuel) it was always going to be this.

Imho the right call, and no red flag, just everyone going all out. Was really great to see.
