He's starting P2 in Monaco, on merit. Well done everyone from the team. And hopefully next year it will be P1!

We gave everything, it was very close, half a tenth, but the front row here is unbelievable. We arrive here with a bit of concern because we do very well on Sundays and a bit less well on Saturdays. We have to stay calm, start well, keep the position and see what happens in the race. The rain will favour those who start out of position, not those of us in the top three.
Stroll blamed his elimination on a multitude of factors all converging during the second session that left him out of the top ten. He lost time being called to the weighbridge and ran wide at Rascasse on his final run.
“Just everything really went wrong,” Stroll told media including RaceFans. “Didn’t get the tyres prepared properly, we got called to the weigh bridge. A lot of things just went wrong. I missed turn 18 – I lost half a second there. Just everything went wrong.
“The potential was there, we were like third in Q1 and I was feeling good in the car and it just all went downhill in Q2. So I don’t know what happened.”
Lance will have 100 points less than Fernando by season end.
To play the devil's advocate in favour of Stroll and Vettel, Lance's preseason prep was very bad. It's also true though that Fernando is in a new team and car, procedures and all the rest.

How convenient. It isn't the first time "floor damage" has been given for an underwhelming performance by Lance. Turkey 2020 springs to mind. My theory is that this statement was forced by the Chairman/Dad to cover embarrassment.
