Yes exactly, a team can have all the listed facilities etc, etc, but what really goes into the design/tunnel is the result of creative thinking and understanding what they want it to do.

Much more easily said than done, it seems :D

This detail almost looks like it's designed to imitate a gurney flap at the corner.

This detail almost looks like it's designed to imitate a gurney flap at the corner.
I would have described their old diffuser shape more as imitating a gurney flap. The outer edge of their diffuser was near enough vertical I believe

The diffuser corner change has been inspired by the w14 (pic from @danielealofan)

My guess is it favours horizontal expansion, thereby generating some outwash. Improves diffuser performance

I understand as lateral expansion too.

Looks like it's encouraging flare out toward the brake vent assembly and airstream coming through the gap between tire and external wall of diffuser.

Combining successfully should keep more linearity of all three flow. Keeping those external flow productive appers to be beneficial to rear stability through difference in suspension height too.

It’s distorted picture though! Look at the wheels and front wing! It’s clearly edited to try and make the floor look straight…

Nice try though! Almost gives away some of the geometry of the underbody! Looks interesting…

Btw I remember people talking of how prescriptive the 2022 rules will be! I don’t see any of that thankfully! We’ve never had so many different and intricate floor designs since the last time f1 had ground effect cars back in 1982 probably…

Totally different mechanism , as you also quoted they use it to raise the boat above the water (aka drag loss via that). In terms of local drag even in those boats it increases local drag but that's worth as it lifts the boat.

The entire floor is a collection for vorticies, with a big one off the back of the strakes. Other than knowing that, it’s hard to say beyond that without calibrated CFD, measured data, etc. Flow isn’t laminar like a bunch of people are imagining.

How so, what is the limiting factor? Are there any new, potentially unknown effects, that would make some geometries cause opposite pressure distribution to what they usually do?
