Maybe the shadow from the sun light, coming from the rear, is making the fairing appear curved on the back. The fairing is angled downward from the tire/brake hub side to the gearbox. The fairings are narrower....

The top picture was taken with the car almost directly below. While the bottom was take with the car further behind.

Since they used the narrow waterslide for Canada this might mean the standard version is more suited to higher downforce tracks. No, they didn't use it anywhere else yet, but maybe the part wasn't ready earlier in the season. We'll see at other tracks. Track specific sidepods might become a trend in coming seasons.

Since they called it an upgrade, I would consider it an evolution and I doudt they're going back to the old one ever....baring extenuating circumstances. I'd be surprised.
