Hi gibells
According to company records Williams spent 4,882 million pounds in 1985.
15,335 in 1990, 36,311 in 1995, 66,051 in 2000 and 83,728 in 2005.
For McLaren the numbers are: 13,320 in 1985. 22,417 in 1990, 48,427 in 1995,
69,274 in 2000 and 113,285 in 2005.
Williams mentioned they had 70 mil in 1997. Benetton won the 1994 championship on a 30 mil budget. Those figures suggest that one would get into the magnitude that was set by the budget cap. The question that I have is not about average spending but about peak spending. If poor teams would have only 20 mil would rich teams be allowed to spend 100?
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best ..............................organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)
