It all started with a raft of upgrades teams started to bring starting with the large one from Merc and followed by a huge one from McLaren.
That explains why they have fallen down the pecking order but it doesn't explain their massive relative drop off compared to Red Bull.
It does seem the car struggles in long corners though so hopefully they get on top of that with the new upgrades that are coming to the Dutch GP
Drop off to RBR?
I've taken all race laps of Alonso versus the winning Reb Bull. I've removed the obviuosly anomalies - first laps, saftey car, VSC, pit stop in/out laps. This is what I got:
Race % Diff
Bahrain 0.83%
Australia 0.14%
Saudi Arabia 0.69%
Baku 0.47%
Miami 0.68%
Monaco 0.54%
Spain 1.20%
Canada 0.03%
Austria 0.73%
Silverstone 1.21%
Hungary 1.19%
Can see that gap is very similar in Spain compared to Silverstone and Hungary. Think this underlines that their problem is longer corners and tracks with a range of corner speeds. Seems they have gone backwards relative to RB in the last couple of races though, indicating they have maybe gone in the wrong development direction which backs up what Krack has said today.
