Red Bull always does the same thing, issues in Friday, a setup change for Saturday magically fixes everything and then win. Is this weekend the exception? Maybe, who knows.

Maybe the new floor edge has changed the aero balance considerably?

Maybe. Or the new surface can allow a lower ride than their historical data suggests.
I am sure once they tweak the syunspen and PU, they will be back on top.

they should have been able to lower the ride height between FP1 and FP2.

Normally, the RB bottoms out a lot which is very audible in the onboard footage. But this time non of it and also visually they look very high of the ground. So it would be a substantial drop in ride height, which no doubt will influence the balance and other parts of the setup. Good chance they want to run simulations first, FP2 is too short to evaluate multiple setup changes and you don't want to change to many things at once.

I finally had time to check f1-tempo and it's obvious RB used 2018 renault PU yesterday. You can't win monza a week earlier and then have these kinds of deficits on straight next race without some funky stuff going on. So if balance problems are fixed somehow then I expect a much better showing today.

Yes, pace simply isn't there, but what's with the amateur hour on the gearbox front? This has to be the worst we've heard so far this year.

I wouldn’t worry too much even if we don’t get the pole. Super Max will obliterate them in the race regardless.

The beginning of the session immediately shows us a different attitude from Red Bull that already visually presents itself with a lower ground clearance, as well as with a step back regarding the solution of the bottom placed on the two RB19. Yesterday Max Verstappen tested the updated solution in FP1 and later it was also supplied to Sergio Perez in FP1. This morning, however, the technicians of Milton Keynes preferred to take a step back, although the new solution was not a radical change. The setup work was certainly more important to improve performance, although the Mexican still complains about a light rear, something that may be more pleasing to Verstappen who – complaints aside – starts fighting for the best time together with the Ferraris, something that yesterday practically never happened during the 2 hours of free practice.
RB started FP3 by running lower and switched back to old floor edge according to Formula Uno.

This certainly explains some of the drama from yesterday. As other said, the track is smoother than they expected, and they might not be happy with the upgraded floor edge (or maybe not a good track to test it).

So the floor edge seems very critical.
They seem to be okay now just not special.
There or there abouts. Another factor is the greeness of the track. But i guess the whole weekend will create a better picture of their standing. If this is a blip or a trend.
For Sure!!

Why?
Verstappens car apparently just "shut off" at end of pitlane. He also had a very bad practice start in FP1, in addition to the bad shifts and all the other issues they have been having and nearly didn't cross the line for the final hot lap in Q1.

Just seems like everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong.
