Question for everyone, what are your odds on Ferrari catching and passing Mercedes for 2nd by the end of the year?

They are currently 24 points away.

Might come down to track type more than anything else.
They will really need to maximize the results of the next 3 races if they want to get second. Mexico, Las Vegas, and Abu Dhabi should suit Ferrari more, Brazil I'm not sure, Japan, Qatar, and COTA seem to be more Merc tracks given the current limitations of the SF 23. Let's see what the new floor achieves.

I still don’t necessarily think it’s the best thing if they do. Financially is the extra prize money for 2nd especially important for them? Probably not. And in F1 where they do everything for any kind of advantage (no matter how small), surely the extra wind tunnel/CFD time is worth a quantifiably significant amount of lap time (at least theoretically when calculating development rate)?

I suspect managers (inc Fred) do have incentives to achieve a higher championship - whether contractually or in press releases (to show the progress they’re making), or even for something as mundane as performance reviews - but as a fan I kinda hope they don’t get 2nd to give them an increased opportunity with how they develop next year’s car.

I believe the wind tunnel / cfd allocation is reset every summer ? So, the finishing order now should not matter for this. Ferrari were 4th this year when the reset happened if I recall correctly.

A good article about F1? That can't be true.

Anyway i'd like to apologize for saying that Hughes made up a Leclerc statement. It's just that i don't trust him at all after 2019.

At this point, I'm skeptical of the benefit of the development sliding scale at least in the small increments between consecutive places.

Red Bull has had less time than everyone.

New floor for Suzuka. Will this be the ultimate upgrade ?

It seems very important. Reading between the lines, this fits with the timelines talked about earlier in the year for when teams would be able to produce a RB “influenced” floor and so you’d expect something of a departure here.

They probably can’t do everything they’d ideally want to within this year’s chassis’ constraints, but if it does what they expect it to, could be a big step towards creating the right platform next year (irrespective of how much immediate performance boost they get from it). Might take them time to understand it properly if it really is a big departure though.

I don't think they'll change much with the new floor. Probably just the rear corner, similar to the upgrade at Suzuka last year. It is the area critical for tyre squirt which seems to be something Ferrari need to get under control also

I think it will be awesome if it fixes the understeer issue. IMO it will be initial version of 2024 floor that we will see.

Considering the entire concept of the car will change, and this floor was finalized (in terms of design) apparently before the summer break, i doubt it.

McL has shown us 3 cars this year. I think the Suzuka Ferrari could be a very RBR looking car.👀

Why? it's not like they're changing sidepods, engine cover, cooling layout etc. Just floor and we don't know to what extent the floor will change either.

They can't even acquire a RB-like car without a completely new chassis due to the lower SIPS location. You're expecting them to bring a new chassis with 8 races left of the year?

Just a dramatically different looking car...

They probably got to investigate and develop another iteration within the limits of existing chassis, but it makes sense to only try the floor out and see how it works with the sides as they are. Haas for Hulk will be completely overhauled in Austin and for KMag for the next race and will feature completely different sides, it is likely a tryout for both teams...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!
