Lando was 0.15s up on Oscar in first two sectors, but made a mistake in last corner.

Laptime that they deleted for VER is debatable - but McLaren drivers were faster than that time.
It was extremely tight, but they have some cameras that we can't see.
It is unclear whether they view contact patch or vertical line from the edge of the tire wall. Given what they called today I think they may look at the contact patch.

If the team can keep this up, the rest of the year and hopefully next year are going to be pretty damn good.

Back to our conversation about Lando making dumb mistakes at the last moment. He had pole right in the bag and lost it in the last corner. Good for Oscar though.

On my feed I couldn't see clearly to be honest, it just looked close.

I look forward to seeing the telemetry between Lando, Oscar and Max.

He seems to be getting ruffled by Piastri, a rookie. And I see some people saying he would challenge Verstappen...

He has some learning to do, but he has the head of a world champion, and that is the hardest thing to teach.

I dont think my cartwheeling championing of Piastri just after the summer break was premature

I don't think there is anything to think he is being ruffled. But he did obviously overcook that last corner.

There's the belief that Red Bull started their 2024 car early and will likely make big gains on the RB19, but I wonder if, at least internally, there's the belief that McLaren can catch them next year.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Yeah i suggested that also, that the current gap flatters us.

But if we start next season 2nd fastest, we can be happy?

It's not a "dumb" mistake, just a mistake.

I actually do think he's making more mistakes because of the pressure from Oscar. Sure, he learns stuff from Oscar, which is good, but Oscar has nothing to lose and Lando has a lot more pressure to perform.
