Yeah I honestly expected a lot more from Sainz, he was on pole last year... Hopefully the reversal will continue onto the race, so he actually finishes and finishes high...

Ferrari is usually good into slow corners and bad into fast ones.

There's so much variation going into next year that i can't figure anything out.

I'm starting to think the best team soon will need to have two floor designs - one for smooth tracks and one for bumpy ones. Suspension will only take you so far before your setup makes tyres drop off the window quicker than you want - either getting too hot or too cold - so you might need different floor for bumpy tracks.

The one for smooth tracks will run close to the ground and suspension will be stiffer. The on for bumpier tracks will run higher and suspension will be softer. You can't design you car for a wide range of CoG heights with a single suspension kinematics, but maybe 5-10mm could be enough between high and low ride height. Hard to tell if teams are operating above 10mm difference between highest and lowest setup, but it doesn't sound impossible. In fact, maybe even 20mm ride height differencd is possible to compensate and keep the tyres in the right window.

This is not practical imo. Dual windtunnel programs under a budget cap, in addition to next year's car. :lol:

Only Andretti could attempt it while they exist as a limbo team, like Haas the year before they were an official entrant.

Not dual programs, just a few subtle differences. You take the floor you want to run in low ride height, raise the whole car as far as suspension can handle with respect to tyre management and then you lower the throat as much as possible as the first step. The next step is to lower the rest of the underlying profile if needed.

The key would be to avoid chaning floor edge wings and stuff, since a) it would be telling to other teams you are changing the whole floor all the time, b) that stuff has a lot of special machined alu parts that cost time and money to machine for every part, while carbon layup needs partially different tooling which have to be made only once and c) those parts have a lot of influence on vortex structures which define how the front tyre wake is treated and the rest of the turbulence is kept from the diffuser.

I don't believe Ferrari's whole aero makes the floor work better in bumps than some other cars, I believe the floor throat height is the biggest difference and how soft and high this allows you to run the car without losing too much overall performance.

I mean, putting Sainz on softs for 19 laps for the Sprint I wouldn’t exactly call a smart move… don’t think keeping a fresher set of Mediums for the race tomorrow is going to make that much of a difference so essentially throwing points away against Mercedes here…

Joint 3rd best in race trim. 2nd in WCC seems out of reach now.
Edit: actually scratch that, MCL looks quicker now too

The last lap fall in pace for Leclerc against Lando was crazy. Gr8 of Sainz to defend from Russel. If Charles hadn't sent it at the start maybe he could have been 2nd for some time.

Horrible race pace. Won’t finish on the podium tomorrow. Max 17 seconds down the road on 19 laps 🤯

Someone at the track said track commentary mentioned a Ferrari having sidepod damage. Might explain Leclerc's drop at the end

Lando was quite a bit quicker. He and Verstappen were the only guys in the 1.39s in the last half of the race. No idea what's wrong with Piastri bu unless Norris gets knocked out on lap 1, he will be long gone.

wasn't the contact between sainz and piastri?
