Never manage to put it on pole while being teammate with Ricciardo. I just think he's a beast on Sunday, on Saturday he's tremendous but not an all-time great atm imo.
Number of pole is not a good stat in my opinion. Maybe you are just not at your best in the track the car is competitive enough. It's "random" to an extent. His average performance in quali has always been excellent.
Same for some of Charles races where he was having tremendous performance (Imola 21, Turkey 21, Jeddah 21 just to have some examples) but they were ruined because of "external" factors.
I agree with you, but when it's over 3 years it just shows something imo.
I think some of the pole he lost this year/it was super close would not have happen with, let's say Charles at the wheel.
Whether it's Leclerc/Sainz or others, it's the H2H that matters. Norris was so unfortunate to have Ricciardo show up on the 1 weekend when Mclaren could win a race but that's basically the point. You can be the better driver, but your worst circuit can be the one where the car is the fastest.
I think Leclerc is benefitting more from this "experience" than Sainz is, anyway. Easier to learn how to play politics, be uncompromising, and the other stuff, than it is to become faster. Sainz is very good at politics and driving for himself. Leclerc will learn.
