How do you plan to utilize the increased capital investment [which was recently upped by $20m]?
Vowles: Of the $65 million, $45 had already been spent. So now we have 20 million more in hand. Ideally we would have needed 142 million to do what would put us at the level of the top teams. So we had to set priorities. This means eradicating our greatest weaknesses.
For example production. Every part that we don't produce in-house costs us three to four times as much and wastes time. That's why we're increasing the capacity in-house. We are investing in a new simulator and simulations. And software that records the entire parts turnover.
When is what available to you?
Vowles: The Simulator 2025. Digital parts capture mid to late 2024. Production facilities between 12 and 36 months.
And people wonder why Haas suck despite nearly "spending at the cap". He who holds capital can spend less to get more. Vowles and his backers have the right idea, Gene Haas is out to lunch.organic wrote: β17 Jan 2024, 23:58For example production. Would prefer that he is not hired by Williams. Took a team dominating 8 years with all the capabilities and failed to deliver back to back. Williams already have Pat fry and young engineers who can step up.
Agreed, I'm pretty sure I remember hearing JV talk about having Pat Fry in place with all his experience and then looking for an up and coming engineer (not an established name yet) to work under him.

Performance can be a matter of environment. James Allison did not produce anything special when he was at Ferrari. Adrian Newey is known to be very particular about his working environment and his madness is nurtured by RB. It wouldn't work at some other teams.
He will do far better if the car is competitive. I don't think he was as bad as many people think, Albon made most of races where Williams were good. On other races, Logan was close to him especially in races.
IMO the main problem is that last season he caused a huge amount of crash damage. Williams have deficits in terms of their ability to produce parts & their production costs so it's something that they can't afford to deal with again
