RB20 speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The outlet was there for a while on the RB19,it originally started out as the suspension opening and then somewhere along the line they disconnected it and had it blowing under the suspension arm
Yup has been a feature since launch rb18

This is a significant evolution.

Thing about W14 is the inlet is still easily visible because of its size. RB20 must have a tiny inlet because even on these better pictures there's no hint of it. The profile of the sidepod gives no hint where it starts.

Probably a slit set back underneath the midwing like feature?

When Mercedes first introduced the “high shoulders” continuing on from the hole in the air you already created via the halo I went on the W14 page to compliment the idea. Now RBR has it too.

So from the images:

1. Bigger undercut
2. Even slimmer radiator inlets like Aston Martin
3. Big bulges on the engine cover like Mercedes W14??
I think number 3 might be an illusion created by a smaller air box. It just looks like the cannon exits are more prenounced because of this shrinking of the airbox.

The fascinating thing about this is no one will be able to copy it because of the upper SIS. They must have moved it to where Merc had it last season. Meanwhile everyone else (and likely Merc too, though we'll see tomorrow) has moved it to the bottom lip area.

Last year it was noted that RB appeared to shrink the roll hoop inlet. This year it seems to have grown again?

The photos are still too grainy to do anything other than speculate. Using the actual car thread would be reckless. There are no studio shots of this car.

For me we're still relying on crappy photos that can be misleading so it's still speculation

Considering we still can't see the sidepod inlet I think it is.

Rb19. This pic and others taken at same time were already seen on 12th Feb online. They had the rb19 at Silverstone to film a 'goodbye' video to the most successful car in history
