RB20 speculation

After seeing the Mclaren, I see a wing here.

I'm starting to think I can see an inlet. Right under the midwing there's a quite clearly defined rectangular darker area, the lower border of the rectangle starts just above the lower part of the red line.

Looks to be a very small inlet if this is indeed it.

Yup.. still an underbite. Not sure why everyone was assuming overbite when you can’t even see any opening to suggest that was the case.
It isn't an underbite. Just trust me

You completely misunderstood the area I'm talking about. It's an overbite, the rectangular area is under the wing in the picture I posted. #-o

Interesting doubts about RB20 sidepods inlet...

Here's what i see... (i might be 100% wrong though ahah  )

Looks right to me. A more refined W14. The Red Bull though not high quality pics, looks like they really said "Whatever you can do I can do better."

It's kind of shocking that Newey and Wache basically went down the W14 road in those main elements... sidepods inlets and bazookas air exit... i mean that wasn't exactly a great car apparently... very interesting indeed!

Could be that it was a good path to take, but couldn't both in harmony fit to the W14 architecture at the same time. Seems like Newey, Wache and Balbo know something Mercedes don't.

I don't think the car (W14B) was really bad at all. They had to deal with a lot of compromises after they found out it the W14 was too conservative on ride height and didn't have a stable enough aero platform. They adapted where possible during the season but quickly shifted focus with help of Allison on the W15.

With the update to front suspension, the new rear suspension, the change to the chassis including seat position and the smaller gearbox they have likely fixed the main issues they had with the car (stability of df, rear df).

I expect them to be really close to RB.

This was my first thought as well. Not sure though if we are seeing the mirror or an opening.

In fact i wrote it didn't seem to be a 'great' car. I mean, i assumed RB19 was the top in terms of aerodynamics...
and apparently seeing they are incorporating two distinctive Mercedes-inspired aero/cooling features in their next evolution - given the huge gap in performance with the rest of the field - is somehow unexpected and surprising...

From many pictures you can clearly see that this is just the mirror vane and some tape covering the sidepod elements.

Here you can see there is no opening. It is an overbite.

The last year's Mercedes at the end of the season probably had great aero, but with a compromised chassis that was not designed for it. RB19 was the world beater, let's see how the RB20 evolves. The ideas look really like they took them from the W14 and refined.

This is more or less what I was visualizing as well. Thank you for the sketch.
Can't believe RedBull did this when seemingly all other teams have gone for the underbite this year.

The cannon outlet seems to work for them. RB introduced it for the first time on the RB18 in Silverstone. They have continued to refine it and apparently a higher cannon outlet with the sharp angle at the end works for them.

Regarding the overbite, I see it as a continuation of their approach to reduce the inlet size to benefit the flow below towards the rear. So what seems to be a clear inspiration, might also bee the next evlution of their own concept.

They did mention that when they introduce the letterbox sidepods in Baku last year, the actual improvement was only half of their own estimate. Maybe it didn't work as well as expected and hence the move to an overbite.

It’s an underbite until proven otherwise.. people saying overbite are imagining things that don’t exist in the images.
