Red Bull RB20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If those inlets are real, either they have some impressive cooling system or some Hondas are going to go boom
Actually they look not much smaller than last years on some pics. The true size will only be seen in the tests and I bet that they will actually be similar to those of 2023. Everyone is just boiling water and no one can do magic.
AN is acutely aware of power unit heat rejection performance.....specifically making the choice of Renault over a Ferrari unit on this metric some years ago. They were contracted to run Ferrari, which they bumped into Torro Rosso to facilitate that contracted use.

Can't see it being an issue now.

You can clearly see there is litterally a Black box around the edge wing.

If this was a full dummy car, that does not make sense.

Maybe it has a combination of the shark mouth inlets and the vertical ones. There is a vertical line there on the 3D model, but no inlets, only the shark mouths. And it did appear to have the vertical inlets on the blurry Silverstone pictures.

PS No, we haven't yet seen the true solution to the full extent and no, the car running the other day is not the mockup shown today

And you think other F1 engineers are not, but only Newey? I very much doubt that, because that's part of the little 1x1 of race car design....

And Renault from back then is a bad example, because as AN himself said, F1 was marketing for Renault back then. That is certainly not the case with Ferrari or Mercedes and also not for Renault today even if the latter are a little behind in some areas.

Is it me or this entire highlighted area acts as some sort of giant NACA duct?

Im going to wait until Bahrain but they certainly were not conservative, contrary to what Horner Adrian and Waché were saying..
I would say they indeed were conservative, because apart from the sidepod inlet it's actually a very conservative evolution. And I doubt whether Over instead of Underbite will change that much.
The nose, sidepod inlet, engine cover are very different and we haven't seen the floor yet. I can't see how this is conservative.
RB18-> RB19 was conservative.
The RB19 was essentially the RB18 lightweight chassis that they developed for 2022 but felt no need to use.

This pushes the envelope in several areas.

The car shown today was not a mockup. It clearly had the right sidepods and the floor edge was crudely covered to hide the detail.

Compared to RB19 -> RB20, it was to me.

If RB20 is a huge change we haven’t seen that change yet. So far it’s a lip and maybe a sidepod intake.

From Chris Medland on X: Image
There appears to be an air exit hole from the sidepod/chassis right below the H in Honda there too.

Nose, sidepod inlet, engine cover, rear wing, suspension, vertical duct, trailing edge water slide, floor edge that they hid, and the underfloor. A car that they have been working on since last summer, before anyone else.

This is "a lip and maybe a sidepod intake" .

Correct, my bad. Have only seen the studio photos from a rear angle now and they do indeed show the same g-line as the car running in shakedown.

Horner:
“I think there’s some great innovation on the car as well, which will no doubt get scrutinized over the coming weeks. Creativity has been strong in the team and you can see that in some of the solutions that they’ve come up with. It’s not a conservative evolution — there’s some great innovation on this car.”
