Sorry my bad on the math.

SF-24 appears to be 0.6s faster than Max's race, on trimmed down Ferrari engine. So it would need to be a 1.6s improvement to be ahead of Ferrari. Still seems a lot.
RB 19 last year lost 35 sec during the VSC period, taking that into consideration Ferrari time in the 3rd stint is 25s faster than Max 2023 and 10 sec faster than Mercedes did on Wednesday on a comparable 20 lap stint
I say this again, it's a moot point to compare Sainz's testing race sim with Max's race stint. Max was having a lazy drive last year after putting distance to the next car. The track in testing is way more rubbered than for a race. Any race sim done today (3rd day), if compared to last year's race stint, is going to be even bigger of a sham.

The ideal comparison is to Ferrari's own performance from last year's testing. To that extent, the progress appears to be quite big! If we get to see Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Aston doing a race sim today, it would give a decent comparison of their relative standing. Even then, some teams might do a few things to mask the real performance.

The best is saved for last. Verstappen, Leclerc, Alonso should all be driving in the evening session and its without doubt that they will all do race simulations.

Unfortunately Hamilton will only be there in the AM, but Russell race sim will have to do.
Russell is the lead driver now so it makes sense.

Yeah, and I was hoping Norris would drive for Mclaren but looks like Oscar will drive in the session 2.

Red Bull is really trolling us by naming a team the same as their chassis. It is super annoying.

I'm convinced Davidson is talking at random... Ferrari race sim was almost 1 second a lap faster in the last stint compared to Mercedes.

Is he still connected to Mercedes?

Yes I believe he's still a development simulator driver for them and was involved with the W15: towards end of 2023 Toto Wolff quoted him as saying the W15 feels "like a real racing car" in the sim. He should have a decent idea of where Merc expect to be

You can still sandbag in a race sim via engine modes, lift & coast etc. Perez did a full race simulation yesterday which was slower than Bottas

There was about 1.5hrs between the red flag and the beginning of the afternoon session yesterday, so less than that

I was thinking more around the lines that he will not be negative toward his employer/friends.
