What is the base of this Horner vs Max conflict?

isn't carlos a good option for RB?
I think it is most likely he ends up replacing Perez. He is competent, fast enough to be a good second driver and has shown he can handle driving next to very fast drivers without having a complete breakdown.

Carlos' and Max' fathers are in different positions now. One's son has fulfilled his potential and the other's son is basically without a good seat right now, so I would assume it would not be an issue unlike back in 2015 where Carlos was relatively close to Max even if the latter had virtually no experience with cars, and getting the RB seat was the goal given Mercedes was a no go.
Carlos had probably the option to be Driver number 1 on future audi, why would he come to Redbull to be a clear again number 2 driver?

I don't think Jos dictates who should be hired or not. It's Marko and Horner. I won't be surprised if Sainz replaces Perez. He would be a good fit and knows the position Max has attained at Red Bull and can be comfortable in being the second driver with an aim to seal WCC. He is intelligent and a good race driver. No reason why he can't fit.
Yes I agree with both yourself and FlyingDutchman. My point regarding Jos and Carlos Sr. was simply to highlight that a decade ago they were just different people just looking out for their sons. Now things are very different and everyone knows true ability. I think both Marko and Horner rate Carlos highly and would welcome him as long as he doesn't sign early enough.

In my many years of watching Formula 1, the only thing I have come realise is that the quicker driver always becomes the leader or number 1 driver of the team. Even if the team has priority for a certain driver they usually don't shaft one in favor of the other while the latter is slower over a season. This has at least not happened in the last decade of my watching F1.

I personally think Carlos will be slower than Max (well he was at best as quick as Max a decade ago, and Max definitely improved much more imo). This makes me believe that he would be a good second driver to drive the RB car.

So, as long as Carlos can beat Max at RB, I don't think it's an issue of number 1 or number 2 driver.

About Audi: Carlos might have a more comfortable role there as a leader with a slower-than-Carlos teammate but isn't guaranteed to have a car that is capable of consistently fighting for the highest honours. At Red Bull, he consistently gets such a car, and even in their bad years, RB have demonstrated that as a team they take every chance they can potentially get. So as long as he is at RB, in my opinion he would be far well placed to have a shot at winning races, and if he can beat Max, even win the title. I don't think Audi at least in the next ~5 years will be in that position, and Carlos is 29 now. These next five years are when I expect him to be able to perform at his very best.

Agree re the fastest driver.

I think Max would be faster and more consistent that Carlos in which case I think RB would make him the No2 driver would he accept that.

No doubt he could push Max along the lines of Hamilton Rosberg, or Hamilton/George I think generally over the long run Hamilton there was the faster of the pair, and I think RB would be much clearer then Merc there in assigning No 1 and No 2 drivers. Would he accept being told to let Max past not so sure given how he has been with Ferrari - at times over riding team orders, most of the times I think hes been right to over ride them but don't know he could accept being designated as No 2. Ferrari never really made that clear

Audi almost feels like the clearer choice for him

Audi seems a

Carlos will not accept the 2nd role anywhere, his mindset is not into that, offcourse there is noone in the grid that goes for 2nd in a team but Carlos is more into this so a move to RB with Max in there to me is not doable from him. Maybe if he has no drive he will do it but he will be totally unhappy from the get go.

These updates refer to changes between the RB19 that raced in Abu Dhabi and this year's car, btw.

Yep, same reason that when Merc/Lewis were dominant, we'd get all kinds of attention on the 'concerning vibrations' Lewis was feeling while 30 seconds out in front with less than 10 laps to go.
