Awesome start to the season especially for a car that is better on the race pace

Yes, it is indeed a good start. Things on track going as usual!

Crucially, they have saved a new set of softs for Verstappen tomorrow.

Are there bonus points for having the lines of your car compliment the font of your title sponsor?

Good point. Max will probably want to rocket off on lap 1 to try to break DRS. Going to be a big factor this year

Track temp was very low today. It probably hurt them over 1 lap.

Anyone know why Max was apologizing to GP?

For being pessimistic when he crossed the line?

Checo should get to the podium tomorrow imo.

I think he missed a setting or something. Not sure.

Perez lost most of his gap to Ver in T1-T2:

Might've been a bet going on that max wasn't able to fulfill (eg 1.28) or it was related to team radio when he crossed the line

They should run a long first stint to give a tyre advantage and not bother too much about gaining places in the first stint. That mid pack for podium positions is crazy tight and they will be battling hard. Saving car and tyres would give great benefit for Perez to make progress in Stint 2 and 3.

Perez drove very well after all the news post the test. If he can consistently get into Q3 and keep fighting the other cars, his position would never come under question. Last year he started relatively high, thinking about the title and subsequently never recovered after the first American race.
