That’s fine but LEC had a faster lap in q2 and didn’t get a tow in q3. If you look at YoY gaps it’s weird to look at just q3 as if the conditions were identical in both years.
Track conditions aren't the same during different sessions so Q2 doesn't matter. Even then, Verstappen didn't do a second run on new tires in Q2 so there is no comparison.
That’s irrelevant… the point I’m making isn’t that LEC should be on pole. If you compare YoY how much Ferrari progressed look at the fastest time.

I predicted this on the first page of this thread
That did not age well :)
So they were all glory running in Fp3 then
Yes, that's what I was pointing at after FP3 :)

Track conditions are not the same between last year and this year so this comparison makes even less sense.

Leclerc’s Q2 lap was faster than the pole lap.
Track condition evolves.
Max was clearly faster in Q3, though.
LEC was clearly slower than himself.

This surface doesn't get reworked year on year, unlike many other circuits (at least part of the circuits). Honestly, I didn't expect the times to be any faster than what it ended up.

All I'm saying is that there is a quantifiable uncertainty in the measurement.

Leclerc didn't even do a second run on new tires in Q3 last year so your comparison still doesn't make sense.

Lol there’s always variables that make comparisons less than perfect. The field is much closer than it was at this point last year. That’s not a controversial observation even if conditions aren’t the same as last year.

Now tomorrow DRS on Lap 2 might make things very very interesting

There’s still a decent edge for Max on his pace that he’ll do fine. The rest might be a bit tight at the start but tire deg will dominate, especially if you are in DRS range.

It could also help create DRS trains that are difficult to break. Charles behind Max in a very efficient car with tow will allow Charles also to not push elsewhere as he has free lap time available in the 4 main straights.

I think things will get shuffled after the first pitstop. Till then it could be a very close race.

Max set his fastest lap in Q2 with the aid of massive tow at the main straight. He did get a tow on the pole lap, which was worth around 0.07-0.08s. Leclerc didn't use any tows on either of his last fast laps, including the best lap of all in Q2. Ferrari were certainly fastest cars today, Mclaren should've been very close as well. That was driver's pole. Well deserved.

Ferrari had enough for pole didn't get it because of using too many sets of softs.
The rules sometimes create these problems.

The grid is quite close, let's see race pace.

Max is always looking for an opportunity (with the tow now).

It is, for qualy, extremely close, very happy Max was able to eek it out.

today it's not the rules to blame though, but the team. There was no need at all to go for a 2nd run in Q1
