Now tomorrow DRS on Lap 2 might make things very very interesting
I agree. I think the change to DRS activation wasn’t talked about enough. It makes a big difference, especially on tracks where DRS is very effective such as Bahrain. Max will probably still have the edge but I would be very surprised if Red Bull finished 50 seconds ahead of Ferrari again.

There are 3 DRS zones here. It's an overwhelming difference in lap time.

The driving quality from testing to now is incredible. No shunts and few mistakes.
Is it the handling of cars getting better?

Verstappen 1st fastest on S1 (with a tow), 4th fastest on S2, 7th fastest on S3. 1:29.152s theoretical best lap
Perez 3rd fastest on S1, 6th fastest on S2, 9th fastest on S3.

Leclerc 4th fastest on S1(without any tow), fastest on S2 and S3. 1:29.084s theoretical best

From P2 to P9, just over 0.3 sec. We are surely going to see some great battles behind Max Verstappen in tomorrow's race.

Sargeant should not be an F1 driver unfortunately. Get Lawson in that seat.

All weekend I feel like Red Bull have somewhat struggled in S3, can anyone verify this with data?

Yep. And you get it from lap 2. Any SC restart and everyone is again in DRS.

This is a giant rule change.

It will inevitably bring the field together even if they are far away in absolute pace. I am curious to see how this plays out with regard to overtaking this year. Might be a fascinating topic.

Looking at the lap-times is a bit crazy compared to 2023. RB19 would get P9.

Haas is only a tenth away from pole of last year.

One would expect that a car that was so victorious would have a bigger margin.....

I fear the dreaded DRS train. Nearly every car in the line will be within 1 second of the car in front after lap 1 (possibly except Max in first). I'm curious about it too, but maybe more on the pessimistic side. Bring the race on either way!

I think pitstops are going to be even more crucial all across the grid because I envision a similar scenario.
