What tires would be best for Hamilton to start the race on?

TBH he is so far down i be surprised he doesn't start on Softs as all the others will be ahead/behind. HOWEVER, with the DRS coming in 1 lap earlier it maybe worth gambling starting on a harder tyre IF he can maintain the pace. That would mean he maybe lose a few positions but he have to fight his way back ahead after lap 6-8, when tyre deg kicks in the softs.

I think lewis should start on hards if he trusts his set-up. Nobody has run hards except Redbull so merc have no data on them. They could be over 1 sec slower than a degrading softs? who knows.

Either way this race will NOT be won on the first stint on softs. The race will be won on who can maintain race pace on hards as that tyre will have most laps run.

The problem will be whether he gets into the melee with cars around him. Starting on hards is a sure fire way of ending up in a fracas. But I agree, risky choice that could very much pay off. It’s going to be very cold for the race start so keeping heat in the hards to get off the line with will be a huge challenge

Hard tire is a good thought with the potential to recover a lot of the pace deficit if he can keep within the DRS of those ahead.

More i think about it Hard be tooo risky on a green track, not much running etc etc? he be maybe like p12-13 as people behind him have new softs.
Lewis may try softs, hards, soft -if he can do a massive stint on hards like 20+laps. Either way lewis has to pass cars ON TRACK so his only hope is his gamble on car setup is right and he can pick off people one by one. P9 is long way to come back for a top 4 finish.

The key for lewis will be his stint on degrading tyres in the first stint. If he is not much faster than those ahead and is far to back to stay close and undercut them he is finished.

Lewis has set of new medium tyres right, would be that good choice to start on medium tyres?

It’s a terrible race tyre by all accounts.

Yes mediums could work as well. Your right, if lewis wants to gamble maybe start on mediums? Problem is they not drastically faster than hards. and will degrade faster.

Nico has new softs which i expect him to start on so expect him to rush lewis and maybe pass him on lap 1.
Mediums are a option but i think redbulls will go, softs hard (soft/medium).

Is it even worse starting on mediums than on softs, and can Lewis saves medium tyres for final stint?

The medium tire has the same speed as the hard tire but worse deg. There's no reason to use it. It only offers less flexibility than the hard tire.

yeah, strategically there aren't really many options. Maybe some cars at the back will start on hards just to do sth different, but otherwise I'd expect the same as last year: S-S-H for Red Bull, S-H-H for everyone else.

The car was literally designed under his leadership
Yes, but now an actual Leader is operating it, and quickly showing where the real failure in the team was.
Qualifying was never an issue for then, if Hulk doesn't go backwards tomorrow then we can say they did something good.
The real point is extracting so much from the car that Dallara can identify where the development focus needs to be placed.

HAAS has almost always started with a good car. Their historic problem is actually extracting 100%. And that is purely a leadership issue. Focus, understanding and servant leadership has been severely lacking in the TP department.
