I think its desperation adding higher DF. Not optimum as you need high speed on this track lets see.

Interesting that last year George was the one generally with the higher df setting.

Bernie Collins said that Mercedes was splitting the downforce levels between the cars to find a balance between race pace and quali pace.

It would be a surprise if Lewis ends up going for more downforce because it's usually him who goes for a smaller wing (Spa '23, Canada '22...)

If you dont trust the rear on this track, you are screwed. Seems like last years issues, have carried through so far.

Toto said they're going through the data to see which setup is going to be the final one before quali. But seems like Lewis has been struggling all weekend even though he said he's happier with the car, he's a good bit off George again

That makes sense. Higher downforce on this track carries a heavy penalty, particularly given lack of tyre wear and the amount of full throttle sections.

7th & 8th. Poor show. Not many positives to take from that one.

Not to worry. Toto said they have 4-5 tenths of race pace to come...

The first sector shows they still cant get downforce in this car

Yup. That new floor is still garbage, just like last year. They still are dependent on wing level to stabilize the rear. Unbelievably no progress has been made in efficiency at all.

This raises questions whether firing Elliott was a good decision.

It wasn't a good decision to fire Elliott. Toto is a mediocre team principal, Brawn had more to do with the success of Mercedes.

Toto says to Sky Germany, when asked if it's true Max has a clause that allows him to leave RB if Marko does, that they don't have a "mascot" anymore and even though Marko doesn‘t have a red cap (referring to Niki), Marko can come to them.

So Toto is essentially opening the door to Marko if he leaves red bull which seems quite likely to be imminent

Like why'd you fire a good engineer? He may have made mistakes, sure, but Mercedes aren't exactly swimming in top tier personnel at the moment. This kind of performance shows that Merc's issues run much deeper than whatever mistakes he may or may not have done.
