Someone explain to me why Alonso would consider Merc?
It all depends on how Aston can improve the car during the first part of the season, if there is no change until summer break Alonso will leave. Good car development is crucial for Aston in 2024.

He will not leave in Mercedes, you think they just "sent" away Hamilton because of 1 year contract, then Alonso will get 3 year contract ? Alonso only place to go is Redbull, at this point there are no better options...
All this talk of Stroll being young and having potential has been made a mockery with Bearman's debut. After so many seasons, it was a poor mistake to be the only driver to clip the wall.
Aston certainly made some improvements over Bahrain ….Russel couldn’t make any impression on Alonso.
At one point ;Alonso was just playing games with him.
Forgot to say it but simulations said P7 for Alonso. One of the best qualifyings I've seen from him in many races, possibly the best only behind Canada 2022 or Monaco 2023 in recent years, and a perfectly executed race. Absolute mega job. Last time here he was P3 but in my opinion he has done an even better job than 2023 with a worse car, maximised qualy further and no silly penalty in the race. Most won't see it though because he ended P5 but he's driver of the day for sure.
Very good drive from ALO. On mediums he was quite competitive, mentioned on team radio that he had no grip on the hards (earlier in the 2nd stint). STR was a joke, Wurz mentioned shortly before the crash on TV the STR train, being a fully sec slower per lap than ALO.
All in all the tyre situation was weird. Old mediums as fast as new hards, new softs not good even in the last laps.
I think Mercedes could have been a match for Ferrari, but overtaking was impossible with only a small delta. McLaren overall also quicker, no illusions please, but not much…
