Are RB ever going to consider putting someone who can challenge Max in the other car?

I’m not sure why they would do that, in recent eras any time that a team does put ‘equal’ drivers in a team, chaos ensues.
In the late 90’s, early 00’s almost all top tier teams had one driver that was noticeably quicker. From a team perspective it really makes sense.
Perspective - Understanding that sometimes the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

They offered Norris a contract and he declined. Can’t do much if drivers are too scared of ruining their reputation by going up against Max.

We've had over 2 seasons with George and Lewis and there's been no chaos, for the good of the sport RB should do the same IMO.

They've not been competing for championships. Still, they've had some moments, and had those moments happened with a competitive car things may have been chaos. But the dynamic is probably easier when the new guy is the young prospect who at some point in time is destined to take over the reins.

Those 2 factors "help" a lot, a car that has no hope of challenging for a championship and a driver on his way out(it's unknown when Hamilton will retire but he leaves Mercedes anyway at the end of this year).

If Ferrari manages to catch up for next year maybe we'll see some fireworks lol.

F1 should have arm twisted them into it. I can't believe we are going to go through this for another year. Perez starting strong, then collapsing and missing out on Q3.

They tried. They have attempted to sign Norris numerous times over the past few seasons. It's an open secret that Norris had the RB door open to him at the end of 2023 but chose to commit to future @ McLaren

The FIA killed this regulation cycle with TD 039 and aero changes introduced in the 2023 season. This cycle will end up being worse than the hybrid one, and that's some achievement considering how dominant Mercedes was.

RB will go for 24/24 this season or something like that, maybe they will --- up in 2–3 races if we are lucky. Races are all over after 3 laps just like the previous 24 minus few outliers. Perez finishing 2nd with minimal effort underlines the colossal difference between RB20 and the other cars. The RB19 is already one of the most dominant cars in F1 modern era and the RB20 will probably be more of the same.

This is the bickering and moaning thread, the “give it a few more races” is for the 2024 season thread. Right here we moan and bicker. Oy.

Have to,get out of bed deep,in the night. Moan. Grumble. Twice. Argh.

These current rules have done nothing to improve what we had in hybrid gen1 era. All manufacturers have now converged and it’s all about driving to boring deltas. The undercut seems more powerful than ever, and as a result teams are all triggered by another team attempting it. (On most circuits)

There’s no enjoyment in watching the race past about lap 3 as max is already 3 secs clear, and short of some miracle, uncatchable!

Sure, why not? Red Bull tried to sign Norris and were interested in Russell in 2021. Norris preferred McLaren while Russell was not released from his Williams and Mercedes management contract.

Red Bull would have considered Leclerc for 2025-on, but his Ferrari salary of $60m p/a would be unpalatable for Red Bull (that's probably more than Verstappen?!) -- Ferrari were willing to offer crazy money so Red Bull couldn't (didn't want to) match that.

Red Bull however were definitely sleeping on Piastri, Red Bull should have swept in to sign Piastri for 2025-on before McLaren provided an attractive contract extension for the Australian. A missed opportunity IMO.

Personally I would have considered Alonso for Red Bull 2021-on, but Honda may have not been pleased with that, so that one is ruled out too.

Lauda and Prost got on just fine, and I am confident that Verstappen and Leclerc would get on just fine. [Obviously: Verstappen and Hamilton, absolutely not, that is out of the question, carbon-fibre flying everywhere even when they were in different teams.]

Unfortunately for Red Bull, Scuderia Ferrari are willing to pay outrageously high salaries for drivers.

This is true, likewise Charles and Carlos. RBR are trying to find a second tier one driver but there is really none available to them given Norris declining a Red Bull contract, being too slow to contract Piastri, Leclerc preferring a much more lucrative Ferrari offer, Hamilton ruled out for risks of regular crashes, Alonso ruled out for slating Honda's reputation, Ricciardo who left the team (despite a contract offer to continue) no longer appears to be a Tier 1 or 1B driver etc.

Sainz as a tier 1B driver could the best bet, and may well drive the Red Bull in 2025 assuming Verstappen and Sainz factions can now interact cordially.

That's nothing to do with the rules, that's just about rival teams not building faster cars yet. :?:

Sometimes they have built faster cars, e.g., McLaren at the sprint race, Ferrari early in 2022, so it's possible (of course).

Ferrari started the regulations with the fastest car, yet failed to extend their advantage.
