If I continue to refuse to take either Verstappen or Red Bull... I have no chance at all, do I?
Rivals, not enemies. (Now paraphrased from A. Newey).

I fear so.
At least RBR is a must have. Not only is this the Team with by far the most points, but they are also the second best Team in terms of Pts/USD after Haas.
For Max it is not as clear cut, but of the Top Points Scorers he is also by far the best wrt Pts/USD.
I don't think that the price changes today will move the needle that much.

This season I find both FantasyGP as well as the official game much more exciting.
Last year, both had a very clear Meta in the beginning because of Aston Martin being severely underpriced.
This year, decisions are much tougher and building the budget is much more difficult.
Aside from RBR being more or less a must have in both games, there are a lot of options.
And this is while In-Season-Development hasn't even started.

The longest season is over. I finally cracked the top10 and made some silly choices in some races, but overall good.

Opinions on this year and next year? Will we only get one of Verstappen/RB, Norris/McL, Leclerc/Ferrari combo with the standard money we'll have? Will Aston be the dark horse? Will Mercedes be better next year?

First and foremost, it has been a much more exciting season in both games, FantasyGP as well as F1 Fantasy. The unpredictability of relative performance from race to race made it much more enjoyable than last season.
I think, in the coming weeks, I will do a bit of reviewing and analyzing. But as a start, just looking at each to their own:

FantasyGP
For me, it was the first full season as a Pro Member, giving me 40 free changes. This in itself gave me much more food for thought about how and when to use these changes. While the 2023 season was rather straightforward for most of the time with an undervalued Aston Martin and Alonso, this season was up for constant change and also a lot of luck to be honest.
I consider my budget building rather sub-par with only 118 Mio. in the end. But on the points side it was not too shabby with 63rd globally.

F1 Fantasy
First of all congratulations go out to Abhimanyu Sinha with his Screwderia Furrari (great name by the way)!
Although the whole season was much more fun than 2023, the game still has a lot of shortcomings, of which I just want to mention the two most important ones from my point of view:
  • Asset pricing
Compared to 2023 the starting prices at least were rather decent. But again the formula for calculating price changes is just broke. It has the tendency, to make assets with a rather bad Pts./$ ratio even more expensive. That constrains decision making heavily.
  • Points system
DNF and DNQ punishments are way over the top - making the whole game a big gamble.
The worse qualifier is the better asset most of the time, as he has more potential to gain positions. Why not give points for winning Intra-Team-Battles in Qualy and/or on Race-day, just like FantasyGP does - that would represent the performance of a given driver much better.
But because of the increasing popularity I am hoping for the best, that they will improve their game. And as everyone has the freedom of a lot of changes, it has been quite a bit of fun.

To your questions:
I would say, it is too early to make any guesses regarding next season. A lot depends on how Teams look like in pre-season Testing and how the pricing will be. For FGP at least I could imagine, that all RBR, McL, Fer and Mer assets (except Perez or his replacement and Kimi A.) will be much closer together than was the case in the beginning of this season.
I also think, that with 75 or 80 Mio. you will get up to three top-notch assets, just as was the case this season. Seeing how close the field is, the big question will be, if 3 x Top-Notch + 3x Shitters will be a good composition, or if there might be something entirely different.
Regarding Aston, in terms of "real" F1 standings I expect them to stabilize on their current level with a more even distribution across the whole season. They will clearly focus on 2026 for a possible giant leap with the help of Adrian Newey.
Mercedes and at least Hamilton were clearly overpriced in the beginning of the season. It took a long time, until their Pts./$ was justifiable. Will 2025 be a season where they might be back at the top right from the start? No one knows.

Thank you Boris. I've been lurking on this forum for many years now and never made an account. Definitely a great place to learn new perspectives about F1 and the tech analysis. The name is inspired by a Binnoto meme that started circulating in 2022 becuase of some insane strategy calls and general reliability of the F1-75 :D

I did enjoy playing F1 Fantasy this year but agree with you on its unbalanced state. It definitely favors meta builds and team value. Once you get the right build early on (which was most key for my points haul this season), it makes it very difficult to catch up or play differentially as the current rules are far too punishing with negative points for lower priced drivers. I really hope they improve the game and try to make the cheaper drivers useful rather than just bench fodder. What i did like was predictable pricing changes, but once the internet figured out the formula it became almost too easy so i hope they do something with that and try to introduce an element of random probability to it so not every high performing driver is guaranteed a price hike or maybe cap in price rise normalized to race count.

Looking forward to next season. LFG!

I've had a tough year and totally abandoned the game before Barcelona.

I hope I can resume it this 2025.

FantasyGP already re-opened with new asset Pricing. How about a 2025 thread?
