Really Alonso disappointed me today i am not satisfied with his runs today in practice 1. Team was already looking for some testing data aerowise for performance comparison with stroll data and he made mistake kinda similar to last year Spainish Grand prix where he did same mistake of damaging new or modified floor by going in gravel. After that his whole weekend was compromised this can not be acceptable to standards of high level of alonso. Stroll was flawless in both practice sessions hope he continue same for weekend and whole season.

I think other members can be harsh for my point of view but this weekend kinda giving me vibes of last year spanish grand prix. Stroll may be genuinely outscored alonso this race currently it seems alonso is on the back foot compared to stroll. Performance i don't know why team losing too much time on last sector3.
Alonso beats Stroll by 20 sec come last lap of GP....

Good thing is stroll looks competitive. So that should bode well for the rest of the weekend
I don't know, nobody was really pushing that's for sure. Last year Alonso FP3 time was 1.17:2 . Now is just was FP2 but Stroll time was 1.17:8. If we calculate inside they 0.6-0.8s faster than last year ,then 1.16:4 would be possible instead of 1.17:800.
A bit strange to compare FP2 times of 2024 with FP3 times of 2023, eh?!

FP2 fastest AMR 2023: 18.8
FP2 fastest AMR 2024: 17:8
FP3 fastest AMR 2023: 17:7 (not 17.2 - what you wrote)

Seen more reports about alonso switched to old floor for fp2. does that mean they changed the floor for melbourne?

or is that just a normal thing for practice sessions if theres been damage during a session. if that makes sense

a little harsh given the fact that a bunch of cars were struggling for grip today. and they were obviously testing some things. sh$% happens when you are racing sometimes. dont go soft on us Hardiks

Yes ,sorry I was watching the q3 I think instead of FP3 or just the letters to small... FP3 time was 1:17.7.

Setup change for Fernando right before FP3 ends. He had corrections in turns 3-4 and penultimate corner, it seemed he wasn't happy with the car (whole weekend to be honest). We'll see if it works

Lance has a real chance of qualifying ahead but it depends on him to deliver a clean lap

very very weird FP3 for all times. im assuming alonso has gone for a lower downforce setup he was 1.5 tenths up during second sector split. then ended up 3 tenths behind

As predicted Alo behind Stroll. Uncomfortable with the car the whole weekend. First 20 minutes lost in fp1 due to aero tests, then had to test an unorthodox rear suspension arrangement that didn't work and sent him to the gravel destroying the first floor. FP2 was a bit better but still behind Stroll. Unsure what changes were made between Friday and Saturday, but very late in FP3 they made a setup change to Fernando (camera showed some work being done on the front suspension) which also seems to not have worked and second floor destroyed. Terrible weekend.

well that’s somehow misleading. he was faster in every q now, and would’ve been in front of stroll, it it wasn’t for the floor damage.
nonetheless not good enough, but yeah, it happens.

The car was fast people get blinded by this result that was compromised by the floor damage. P5 at least was definitely possible and the long runs looked really good in FP2. I expect a good race.

That is a good question. If they dont have another spare and they can't fix it fully, then he's screwed for tomorrow

I think De la Rosa said he hopes to have a floor for tomorrow in a conversation with another journalist.

He also said that Alonso had a strong gust of wind in turn 6 which caused his mistake. Could be true but also teams defend their drivers so Im a bit skeptic. Too many opportunistic gusts of wind out there.
