Really good Q pace from Sainz, Leclerc definitely needs to snap out and find a way to trust those Softs in Q trim. No doubt SF24 handles the tyres in Q trim very differently from last two cars, but that's no excuse.

Too bad source of f1-tempo telemetry is shot, looks like every lap of every driver has an issue somewhere, nothing to compare and we are stuck just watching. Like cavemen from 10 years ago

I would think that FP2 getting rained out is potentially good news for Ferrari. Redbull with a lot of new parts, McLaren with their experiments in FP1 means they need more track time to settle down.

Race pace for Lec looked solid during his extremely short race run at the end of FP1

hard to read much into the longruns as both Ferrari were obviously underfueled, but Marko just said that despite running at less fuel and more power, the Ferrari times were good. "It's close"

there's a massive contradiction in there somewhere.

"It's close" but if their impression is that Ferrari are underfueled and using more power and they are still ahead it shouldn't be anything but close.

He was talking about race pace where Leclerc was a second faster than Max. What Marko means is that correcting for lower fuel levels and higher engine mode, Leclerc's race pace was pretty close to Max.

Marko's full of bs as usual. He keeps repeating Ferrari runs at higher power in practices and telemetry keeps proving otherwise. Less fuel for Leclerc compared to Max in R sim is quite obvious.

Ah makes a lot more sense although Leclerc stint was 3 laps long. 2 of em on a lower engine mode.

Interesting. Ferrari have a tendency to run their engines slightly higher on Friday, they did on this track last year too. Should be an interesting weekend. Ferrari is definitely not weak in S1.

Sainz -
- “In FP1 we were perhaps closer to Red Bull than I had anticipated or expected, so positive signs in terms of progress made over the past five months.”

- "But last year we were 0.8 seconds behind Red Bull in qualifying and now we are only 0.2 seconds behind Red Bull, which is a good thing. It's a good starting point , but they will be difficult to beat this weekend."

- "We did some good winter testing, we understood the car well, we found a basic setup that more or less seems to work everywhere. Plus, you know, the car is just better this year, it who helps."

Source - @MotorsportWeek through @FerrariF1FRA

Imola upgrades, RBR minor-ish upgrade (tbd), with this. There is only so much hope one person can take.=

It is only FP1 but this is night and day from last year.

Sainz really on it this season. Quite impressive, and he's obviously still getting full support from the team.

Looking better than expected so far, dare I say.
The usual suspects will do their overnight jump, however.

They really don’t have a lot to learn from today. This is going to be like a sprint weekend.
