The team did fantastic considering everyone else brought small or big upgrades. We could have had pole without the huge Red Bull upgrade. We were I would say comfortably faster than the upgraded Aston and from Ferrari this time.

I need to see those pundits that put McLaren at 4/5th in pecking order. Here we are in front of all but Red Bull, and closer that 2023.

When I read that first it confused me as well but I was keeping track of how many tyres he used in Q1 and Q2. He had two new sets in Q3.

I edited and accepted it! But you can see why it looked like it! And it's still early, and no coffee.

Very nice job by Norris. The drivers we are able to make the difference today and Norris strung together a strong lap. Looking forward to seeing the race pace. I'm hoping I am wrong about the mid speed long corners when the car is full of fuel, but tomorrow is going to be a big fight, very exciting to watch. I love Suzuka, one of my favourite tracks, really happy it's one where we typically do well.

Also loving that Sainz is still on top of Leclerc, I hope he makes a mockery of Ferraris decision this year

Pretty much halved the one lap deficit to Max since last Japan GP. And that's not basing against a non upgraded car. That's pretty impressive.

That was the number I was waiting for! Without upgrades, we cut 50% of we needed.

It's cooler conditions, it favours our car a little more than last year but yes, we do look like we have reduced the deficit to RB in Q. However, let's wait to see if they have simply set it up for the race, which I think they have.
