Luckily the guy who was appointed to pick which color the Interstate signs are here in the US was colorblind, so even though he asked for Blue he actually picked the green one as his favorite.

Supposedly Green(white lettering) is the easiest to read under all lighting conditions.

They also recently started changing all road signs from "Highway Gothic" that they have been using for half a century, to "Clearview". The difference is night and day.

...and apparently, both Hellertown and Bethlehem are 1 mile closer.

2 different signs, note the mile markers at the lower left hand side... those are actually very accurate if you need to gauge the accuracy of your speedometer or odometer, mine are off by 17% because of my bigger than oem rear tires, it actually helps the highway MPG's

Too late for proper brain function.

I thought in my feeble mind that maybe the exit had moved. We have mile markers in Canada too... I figure they are probably everywhere.

Well, Km markers..... We have joined the rest of the civilized world in adopting the Metric System.

On a Red/Green note, why are stoplights red and 'golights' green? On theory is that since red is a longer wavelength, it can pierce the fog and haze better, and you can see it from a longer distance.

Any other theories?

Damn right, logic is a universal thing.....it should come naturally to everyone in general, not via a manual. Do you have to give a test similar to this one in mexico too?
Besides, atleast you dont have to perform a controlled 360deg. spin like the blokes in Finland have to, to get their licenses.

Not necessarily; ever heard of "twisted logic"? This is often why many things can be argued both ways. And not every driver is "logical" (i.e. Women). Kidding!

As long as everyone learn the road signs and get on the same page... that's the point I suppose. Sure, some signs can be a little more "intuitive" but what's intuitive for one person may not be the case for another.

Evidently I found them a bit tough... and I would have ran over some unsuspecting pedestrians myself... whilst driving on the wrong side of the road. #-o

Or the right side of the road as I'm British. Everyone else in the US and Europe is wrong. :P

Yeah, I meant KM markers.

The US is maintaining it's hold as a world leader in change. They can celebrate the continued use of the Imperial system, along with the other two still using it, Libya and Myanmar.

Good to see these forward thinking nations leading the world.

I just asked my gf and she said that she didn't take a test or anything, but that's only because she got her license at a small town in our 'home' municipality. But in normal cities there are written and driving tests you must take.

Although I personally don't have any experience regarding this subject in Mexico. I'm only here a couple of months during the year, but I live in the US.

Scot, I believe a 57% is an F plus. Or did you mean 67% by any chance?

Hmmm...maybe the Mexican authorities are a bit soft on their citizens about driving licences, or else very few will ever get one!

That's on the brink of being an insult. But it's true nonetheless, since with the current level of preperation very few people would recieve the license.

But the softness can be said for many a things here in Mexico. I was just out at a party and some punk mafia kids parked on the damn sidewalk! The authorities can't do a single thing about that, at least not the locals, because the military will kick ass and kill like there's no tomorrow.

You just have to take your country for what it is. I'm sure India isn't any better...

Good night.

relax dude, obviously it was nt meant to be an insult, making fun of the authorities feels good somtimes :D ...and yeah, India is much, much worse when it comes to the driving licenses. People dont actually take test(sometimes) to get their licenses, they even claim the license at 17yrs by faking some stuff  you cant even begin to think how the law is smashed to smithereens over here.

78%, C+. Friggin fire trucks move too slow anyway, as long as their lights aren't on just pass 'em, no need to follow. :o

I've heard a lot of ideas about the colours of traffic lights. First, a teacher told us that railroads used red and white (for stop and go) and that green was chosen by the guy who made the first light for unknown reasons.

Then I read somewhere that ships used a red light for port and a green one for starboard, and, as in the question of the test given to us by mx_tifosi, the ship on the right had the "right" of way (you saw the red light when it approached). This seems probable, because (I think) airplanes still use that convention.

At every conference on traffic lights I've been, some guy has some new theory and comes up with a new inventor of the traffic light, so if you don't trust (as I do) anything you see, much less what you hear or read.

I imagine some sort of infinite regression, like the one I posted once about why the Space Shuttle rockets have the width of two horse asses... ;)

Well, not exactly. I have the results of the tests made for the selection of colours in the Americas (in the AASHTO "Green Book"): the most visible colour is black on yellow, followed by white on green. That's why warning signs are that colour (black on yellow), while information signs are white on green.

I guess that's why bees and wasps are coloured that way (they "choose" the most visible combination so you don't step on them).
