No one did proper long runs apart from Alonso and Super stiff car is the only way to fix race pace at high fuel loads. This is somewhat low deg track, but rear limited. By running stiff they can see if the car can handle the tyres at high fuel loads. If race pace is good here, this might be something they have to live with. Imola upgrades talked about different rear suspension mountings (lower leg, as can't change gear box design) so let's see.Nikosar wrote: ↑03 May 2024, 21:00Long runs on hard :

Alonso did 3 or 4 "long run" laps after he did 18 Quali and cool off laps. So you need to put that in perspective. The tires already had 18 laps on them when he started the long runs. Also his second stint was about 12 laps so imagine how much fuel he had on for those quali runs. He didn't pit before the long runs.Ashwinv16 wrote: ↑03 May 2024, 21:37No one did proper long runs apart from Alonso and Super stiff car is the only way to fix race pace at high fuel loads. Yeah, and despite that he still set identical time to Stroll. But everyone clearly got caught out by the softs if you look at the McLarens. But yes agreed a bit disappointing Alonso couldn’t put it all together but considering the circumstances of losing a lot of time in FP1 with changing the suspension and not trying reds it’s not a bad effort. He’ll redeem himself for real qualifying I expect.
